The Southern Region Has One of the Largest National Productions of Renewable Energy and Florianópolis Was Chosen to Host National Forum
The Southern Region (Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, and Paraná) is responsible for the production of more than 2MW of renewable energy through micro and mini generation. In this way, the region has stood out on the national scene, demonstrating significant participation in recent months. Therefore, the city of Florianópolis, in Santa Catarina, was chosen to host the Annual National Forum on Renewable Energy Generation, which takes place in June 2022.
According to data from the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL), the southern states have been very focused on the production of renewable energy in recent years. This fact places them among the top 6 positions in the state ranking of Distributed Generation in Brazil. Rio Grande do Sul ranks third, with 11.7% of installed capacity, while Santa Catarina and Paraná rank fifth and sixth, respectively, both with 5% of installed capacity.

The Southern Region Is the Second Largest in Brazil to Have Significant Renewable Energy Distributed Generation (GD)
According to the director of the Regional Council of Engineering and Agronomy of Santa Catarina (CREA-SC), Flávio Wacholski, the South of Brazil, which includes the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, and Paraná, is the second largest region for renewable GD production in Brazil. The region only falls behind the Southeast, but the director points out that the current stage of development is already very satisfactory considering the regional capacity.

According to him, the Southern Region focused a lot on GD energy, which brought this national ranking in 2022. The actions of lawmakers related to the state of Rio Grande do Sul also significantly contributed to this improved positioning. After all, along with experts, a team was formed to bring greater development in the GD sector to the South.
The solar energy, however, remains the most predominant and promising in the national scenario, given the high incidence of sunlight in the country. However, the Southern Region also has extensive potential for small hydropower plants, with generation capacity up to 75 kW, which reduces environmental impacts.
The Distributed Generation Forum Will Take Place in June 2022 in the City of Florianópolis
In light of this broad and constantly growing market, the city of Florianópolis, in Santa Catarina, was chosen to host the 2022 edition of the National Forum on Renewable Energy Distributed Generation. This major event will focus on the production of renewable energy, mainly in micro and mini quantities.
The FRG Media & Events Group is taking care of organizing this great meeting and has already stated that the event will take place on July 21, 22, and 23, 2022. This will be the 14th edition of the meeting and will take place primarily at the Majestic Palace Hotel.
The company’s CEO, Tiago Fraga, in an interview with the portal De Olho na Ilha, stated that they expect a large-scale event this year, providing greater stimulation for renewable energy distributed generation in the South of the country. The expectation is that this will be one of the largest forums of all time and will bring important discussions such as the role of agribusiness and cooperatives in energy generation. Additionally, the economic recovery of the sector may also be a focus of discussions.
