The course will be taught by the College of Philosophy, Sciences, and Letters of Ribeirão Preto at USP and will have a total workload of 32 hours, distributed over four weeks.

The classes will take place from 08/04/2024 to 11/30/2024, and there will be no in-person meetings, allowing teachers from any part of the country to participate, as long as they have internet access.

The topics covered in the course are essential for any educator who wants to better understand how the brain works and how this can influence learning.

The first week will cover the basic concepts about the central nervous system, linking the brain to behavior, understanding the application of neuroscience in humans, recognizing important structures of the nervous system, and debunking neuromyths. Additionally, the connection between theory and practice for basic education will be made.

In the second week, the focus will be on the specialized cells of the nervous system. Participants will learn to identify the main cell types present in the central nervous system, understand the components of neurons and neurotransmission, and illustrate the role of neurotransmitters. Again, there will be an integration between theory and practice focused on basic education.

The third week will bring the theme of neuroplasticity, one of the most revolutionary concepts in modern neuroscience. Educators will understand how behavior can alter brain functioning, define neuroplasticity, illustrate everyday aspects related to this phenomenon, and interpret social influences that can affect the brain. Educational practice will once again be integrated with theoretical content.

In the fourth and final week, the themes will be memory and learning. Participants will learn about the concepts of memory and learning, the differences between short-term and long-term memory, and the structures of the central nervous system related to these processes. The course will conclude on a high note, articulating theory with practice in basic education.

How to Enroll

To enroll and secure one of the 10 thousand available spots, interested individuals must access the registration link on the USP website.

Enrollment will close on 07/31/2024, or as soon as the spots are filled. Therefore, it is essential to enroll as soon as possible to not miss this unique opportunity.
