New Electric Car JAC Y3 Will Soon Arrive in the Automotive Market With 405 Km of Range. The Model Promises a Showdown With BYD Dolphin and GWM Ora 03.

JAC is preparing to launch its newest compact electric car in Brazil. It is the JAC Y3, or Yiwei 3, which is expected to debut this year. Now, the brand, which plans to compete with the BYD Dolphin and GWM Ora 03, has already started the export process to the Brazilian market. According to the Chinese company, the first batch will not come to Brazil, but the first units should arrive soon in South America.

The JAC Y3 is one of the brand’s main bets for this year, as the model will compete with giants like the BYD Dolphin and Ora 03. Developed in partnership with Volkswagen, which owns 75% of JAC in China, the electric car is built on the D1 platform, which is more sophisticated than that of the E-JS1, for instance. Already spotted in testing here, it is still unknown which version of the car will be imported to Brazil, as there are two options for the powertrain.

The first has an electric motor powered by a 41 kWh battery delivering 95 horsepower and 13.8 mkgf of torque.

In this case, the rival of the BYD Dolphin and GWM Ora 03 delivers a range of 405, noting that these figures are according to the Chinese cycle, which is less strict than traditional ones. The second option features a 51.5 kWh battery and produces 136 horsepower and 21.4 mkgf. The range in this case is 505, and in both versions, the top speed is 150 km/h.

Electric Car Interior Features Retro Design

The new rival of the BYD Dolphin and GWM Ora 03 measures 4.02 m in length, 1.77 m in width, 1.56 m in height, and has a wheelbase of 2.62 m. These dimensions are close to those of its Chinese rivals, with only a few centimeters of difference. They also equate to those of a Hyundai HB20, for example. Its interior design features a retro style, reminiscent of the Mini Cooper.

There are also flush door handles, five-spoke wheels, two-tone paint, and round headlights with 137 LED points that give the electric car the appearance of having eyelashes.

Inside the JAC Y3, the design is quite clean, with light colors in the finish and a minimalist touch. The digital instrument panel measures 6.2 inches, while the multimedia center can have a screen of 12.8 inches or 15.6 inches depending on the version.

The features list for the rival of the BYD Dolphin and GWM Ora 03 includes a 360° panoramic camera, semi-autonomous driving assistants with 18 functions, and wireless phone charging. In the top option, there is also adaptive cruise control and front radar.

Find Out How Much the JAC Y3 Will Cost in the Brazilian Market

Focusing on competing with the BYD Dolphin and GWM Ora 03, it is likely that JAC’s electric car will arrive at an initial price of around R$ 150,000.

However, the brand has not yet confirmed prices, nor a specific debut date. Regardless, the Chinese JAC does not have any model in that price range available in Brazil. Thus, it will be an important addition to the portfolio.

It is also worth mentioning that recently the brand launched the T9, its mid-size pickup that arrived to compete with the segment leaders, such as the Fiat Toro and Toyota Hilux. With an initial price of approximately R$ 200,000, the model delivers a modern design, good performance, and embedded technology.
