Countdown To The Volkswagen T-Cross: BYD Announces Launch Of Electric SUV For Approximately R$ 60 Thousand, Expected To Arrive In Brazil In 2025.

A renowned Chinese automaker is causing a stir in the automotive market with the launch of a new electric SUV, the Yuan Up from BYD. This vehicle, with an estimated price of around R$ 60 thousand, promises to directly challenge the sales of the Volkswagen T-Cross in China. According to media reports on Saturday (27), the Yuan Up is set to be launched, generating high expectations due to its competitive price and promising features. It enters the market to compete with major names like the Volkswagen T-Cross, offering an attractive new option in the SUV category.

The BYD Yuan Up has been revealed in its first official photos and is anticipated as the brand’s new cheapest electric SUV, the model is part of the Ocean line and is preparing for launch in China before arriving in international markets later, including Brazil.

The newest model from BYD, which will end the sales of the Volkswagen T-Cross, is based on the updated Dragon Face design language, with elements that closely resemble its larger sibling, the Song L, recently introduced with a more refined proposal and which should also arrive here soon.

In general terms, the design relies on robust bumpers, narrow LED headlights, a wide panoramic roof, darkened pillars, flush door handles, integrated taillights, a roof spoiler, and plastic protections on the wheel arches.

In fact, the external design of the new SUV had already been partially revealed with the disclosure of images released by the Chinese ministry responsible for homologation, as well as images of the camouflaged prototype. However, it is now possible to see the new entry model in its entirety, at least on the outside, since internal images have not yet been disclosed.

New SUV That Will End Sales Of The Volkswagen T-Cross Delivers 177 Hp Of Power

The new BYD electric SUV has a length of 4,310 mm, a width of 1,830 mm, a height of 1,675 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. For comparison, the Volkswagen T-Cross, the best-selling compact SUV in Brazil in 2023, measures 4,199 mm in length.

According to documents from the Chinese government, the mechanics of the model will consist of engines producing 95 hp and 177 hp. The batteries of the model will feature Blade technology of 32 kWh or 45.1 kWh, delivering ranges of 301 km and 401 km, respectively, according to the CLTC testing cycle.

It is important to note that the Chinese brand has two lines of vehicles, namely Dynasty and Ocean. The models in the Dynasty line are named in honor of Chinese dynasties. It consists of 5 lines: Han, Song, Qin, Tang, and Yuan. The Yuan series currently includes two models: the Yuan Pro and Yuan Plus (Atto 3). Soon, BYD will launch the third model, which is the Yuan Up.

What Will Be The Price Of The New Electric SUV From BYD?

The Yuan UP is expected to hit the Chinese market in March this year with an estimated price of 100,000 yuan, equivalent to R$ 69 thousand in a direct conversion.

In Brazil, where it has been reported that the launch of the model is being prepared to end the sales of the Volkswagen T-Cross, it may take a bit longer, arriving in the second half or even in 2025. However, here, its price would be above the entry Dolphin, something in the range of R$ 170 thousand to R$ 200 thousand, a price that would make it extremely competitive here.
