The Japanese government announced that it is open for applications for full scholarships for undergraduate courses, scheduled to begin in April 2025.
According to the information, the program includes a preparatory Japanese language course, and applications can be made until June 28.

According to the announcement, candidates selected by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT) will be fully exempt from academic fees and will also receive a monthly allowance of 117,000 yen, which is approximately R$ 3,950.
The focus of this assistance is to help cover living expenses in the country. It is important to highlight that this amount can be adjusted according to the location of the chosen university – the scholarships also include round-trip airfare to Japan.

Who Can Apply For The Positions
To apply, those interested in the scholarship must meet some minimum requirements, such as:
- Be Brazilian;
- Be born after April 2, 2000;
- Have completed or be in the last year of high school;
- Have advanced knowledge of English or Japanese.
An interesting fact is that, although fluency in Japanese is not mandatory, candidates who score zero on the Japanese language test will be disqualified from the program. In other words, in practice, it is necessary to have at least a basic knowledge of the language.
How The Selection Process Will Be
According to the announcement, the selection process will consist of several stages, including:
- Document analysis;
- Written exams covering specific subjects, English, and Japanese;
- Interviews, which will be conducted with the highest-ranked candidates.
Where To Register
Those interested in participating in the selection process must personally attend the Consulate of Japan in São Paulo (Av. Paulista, 854 – 3rd floor). The location is open Monday to Friday, from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM and from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM.
There are several documents that must be submitted (the list is at the end of this article on Click Petróleo e Gás. These documents can be submitted at the time of registration or mailed by June 28.
Required Documents
- Completed application form in English;
- Two 3×4 photos (colored, with a white background, clear and recent; one glued or scanned into the form and one separate);
- Authenticated copy of ID;
- Handwritten essay in Portuguese (30 to 40 lines, font Arial 12, A4 size, typed) explaining the reasons for studying in Japan, the intended course, the reasons for the choice, and future professional activity.
- Those who completed high school must attach the authenticated academic transcript and completion certificate, while those in the last year of high school must attach the original enrollment certificate and simple copies of previous year report cards and the first bimester of the third year;
- Undergraduate students in Brazil must present the academic transcript and a declaration of regular student status, both originals or authenticated copies;
- In addition, a letter of recommendation from the last attended educational institution must be submitted, in Portuguese or English, on letterhead, with the stamp and signature of the responsible person.
