The 2018 Jeep Compass Stands Out in the Used Car Market for Its Comfort, Performance, and Sales Leadership. Check Prices, Versions, Consumption, and Maintenance.

The 2018 Jeep Compass remains one of the most sought-after models for those looking for a used car that combines comfort, robustness, and good resale value.

Produced in Goiana (PE) since 2016, the medium SUV has captured consumers’ attention nationwide by surpassing rivals and even leading sales over compact models.

In 2024, even with new competitors, it maintained its leadership in the segment, selling over 50,000 units.

This preference is not without reason: it offers a wide range of versions, reliable mechanics, and good parts availability.

The Success of the Jeep Compass in Brazil

The journey of the Jeep Compass in the national market changed the brand’s history in the country.

Until then, Jeep faced sluggish sales, but the arrival of the Compass and the Renegade solidified the brand as a reference in the SUV segment.

Launched nationally in 2016, the Compass is built on the Small Wide modular platform, shared with models like the Fiat Toro and Jeep Renegade.

Since then, it has already surpassed the mark of 450,000 units produced in Brazil, remaining at the top of the medium SUV category.

In 2018, it recorded over 60,000 registrations for the year, and in 2021, it surpassed 70,000 units sold.

Today, the Toyota Corolla Cross is the closest rival, but it has not yet managed to dethrone the Compass from its top spot.

2018 Jeep Compass: Engine and Performance

The 2018 lineup offered options with a Tigershark 2.0 flex engine and a 2.0 Multijet diesel engine.

2.0 Flex Tigershark Engine: 166 hp with ethanol and 159 hp with gasoline, torque of up to 20.5 kgfm. The six-speed automatic transmission provides comfortable driving but with slower acceleration. The 0 to 100 km/h is over 10.5 seconds.

2.0 Diesel Engine: 170 hp, robust torque of 35.7 kgfm, and a nine-speed automatic transmission. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 10 seconds, with 4×4 traction.

The flex model is more accessible in the used car market, while the diesel version costs on average 15% to 20% more.

Comfort and Interior Space

The 2018 Jeep Compass is recognized for its good space for the driver and passengers. The driving position is elevated, typical of SUVs, and the ergonomics favor long trips.

In the back seat, three adults can travel comfortably, and the trunk has a capacity of 410 liters.

The independent multi-link suspension ensures a smooth ride, although there is slight body roll in tighter corners.

The sound insulation could be better, but the setup offers adequate stability and safety for the segment.

Highlights of the Limited 2.0 Flex Version

Among the most recommended versions of the 2018 Jeep Compass in the used car market is the Limited 2.0 Flex, which features a comprehensive equipment list:

  • Safety: six airbags, traction and stability controls, hill start assist, rear camera and sensor, electrochromatic mirror, xenon headlights, and tire pressure monitoring.
  • Comfort: dual-zone digital air conditioning, keyless entry, leather seats, electrically folding mirrors, cruise control, and electric parking brake.
  • Technology: Uconnect multimedia system with an 8.4” screen compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, and steering wheel controls.

Some units offered options from the ADAS package, including adaptive cruise control, autonomous braking, collision warning, blind-spot detection, parking assist, and panoramic sunroof.

Special Edition Night Eagle

The limited Night Eagle edition arrived in 2017 as the 2018 line, based on the Longitude version. Its look received glossy black accents on the 18-inch wheels, front grille, trim, and badges.

Common Problems and Recalls

Among the main complaints registered by owners are issues with the six-speed Aisin automatic transmission, which may be related to the heat exchanger. There are also reports of clicks in the steering column and failures in the multimedia system.

The model has also participated in various recalls, including adjustments to the braking system, power steering hose, electrical relays, fuel sensor, and more recently, in the fixation of the front suspension.

Is It Worth Buying a Used 2018 Jeep Compass?

The 2018 Jeep Compass combines qualities that explain its success: generous interior space, complete equipment, options for flex and diesel engines, in addition to established leadership in the segment. In the used car market, it stands out for its high demand and ease of resale.

On the other hand, it is important to consider that maintenance can be more expensive than for compact SUVs and that some versions have known issues.

Therefore, the recommendation is to look for a unit with a record of timely maintenance and, if possible, with an extended warranty.
