National Automaker Bets on Hybrid SUV with Seven Seats, 4×4 Traction and Sturdy Design to Compete with Imported Models in One of the Most Competitive Segments of the Brazilian Automotive Market.

Lecar, a Brazilian automaker that has been standing out in the national automotive sector, is advancing with the development of a seven-seat 4×4 SUV equipped with hybrid powertrains, directly aiming at the segment dominated by imported SUVs such as Jeep Compass and Toyota SW4.

The new model, temporarily named Lecar Tactical, promises to combine robustness, technology, and sustainability in an unprecedented national project, according to recent projections and statements from industry sources.

With an eye on the growing demand for high-capacity family vehicles and energy efficiency, Lecar is betting on the Lecar Tactical as a response to the search for alternatives to foreign brand SUVs, many of which have no local production.

According to a projection published by the website Notícias Automotivos, the proposal for the hybrid SUV meets the profile of Brazilian consumers who seek performance, interior space, and versatility for both urban use and off-road adventures.

The Lecar Tactical is part of an expanding portfolio, alongside the models Lecar 459 and Campo – a crossover and a light pickup, respectively, both with hybrid propulsion and already confirmed for the Brazilian market.

Although still in the early stages of development, the seven-seat SUV has the potential to position itself as a standout option among mid-size SUVs, especially by combining four-wheel traction and flex hybrid propulsion.

Sturdy Design and Focus on Off-Road

The design of the Lecar Tactical is already attracting attention in the market.

According to projections developed by designer Kleber Silva from KDesignAG, the utility vehicle stands out for its robust body, high suspension, all-terrain tires, and aesthetic elements that highlight its adventurous vocation.

Straight lines, roof rails, large windows, and a spare tire mounted on the rear enhance the off-road appeal, an important differentiator compared to competitors.

Additionally, the model is expected to feature full LED headlights, bumpers designed for off-road journeys, and the capacity to accommodate five to seven passengers, thanks to the efficient use of interior space.

The trunk is expected to offer competitive volume compared to the main rivals in the segment, meeting the needs of families or groups that travel frequently.

Technology, Comfort, and Connectivity

Inside, the Lecar Tactical may showcase modern connectivity solutions, such as a digital instrument cluster on a prominent display and a multimedia system integrated into the dashboard, along with enhanced finishes to withstand use in harsh environments.

According to industry sources, the 4×4 SUV is set to include a flat floor, modular rubber mats, a console with rubberized surfaces, and features aimed at practicality for daily use.

There is an expectation that Lecar will invest in active and passive safety features, including stability control, driving assistants, and multiple airbags, aligning the model with international standards.

The presence of hybrid systems also contributes to emission reduction, a growing demand in the automotive market driven by environmental policies and consumer interest in sustainable solutions.

Flex Hybrid Mechanics: A National Innovation

The heart of the Lecar Tactical will be a flex hybrid powertrain, a technology increasingly valued among Brazilian consumers.

Consulted sources indicate that the SUV may utilize the flex HR10 engine from Horse, with 122 horsepower, or the HR13, which delivers up to 162 horsepower.

Both are already equipping other hybrid models in Brazil.

The hybrid architecture plans for the use of two electric motors, one of which is installed on the rear axle, ensuring all-wheel traction and superior performance in off-road situations.

This solution will allow the Lecar Tactical to achieve a combined estimated power between 250 and 330 horsepower, rivaling higher-end imported SUVs.

Another differentiator will be the iron phosphate battery, recognized for its durability and greater robustness, capable of providing superior electric range and more efficient charging compared to conventional systems.

According to experts, to make the project viable, Lecar may rely on international suppliers, particularly from China, which dominate the production of components for hybrid and electric vehicles.

Furthermore, industry sources indicate that a new platform should be developed to accommodate the independent suspension on all four wheels and the electrified modules, making the SUV capable of tackling various terrains with comfort and safety.

Market Strategy and Competition

The decision to invest in a national seven-seat hybrid-powered SUV reflects Lecar’s intention to compete in a segment currently dominated by foreign brands.

Models like Jeep Compass, Toyota SW4, and Chevrolet Trailblazer rank among the public’s favorites but face criticism for high costs, costly maintenance, and reliance on imports, impacting after-sales service and parts availability.

By offering a nationally produced flex hybrid 4×4 SUV, Lecar hopes to attract price-sensitive consumers interested in more economical, sustainable vehicles suited to Brazilian conditions.

If the project materializes, the Lecar Tactical could become a reference among hybrid SUVs, exploiting the gap that exists between high-value options and smaller alternatives, which are generally limited in space and power.

The expectation in the sector is that the launch of the Lecar Tactical will further boost the national SUV market, which is traditionally dominated by combustion versions.

At the same time, the arrival of a robust and affordable hybrid model could encourage other automakers to invest in clean technologies and customized solutions for Brazil.

Hybrid SUV Segment Grows in Brazil

The hybrid SUV segment has been growing significantly in Brazil, with sales increasing by over 40% in recent years, according to data from the National Federation of Motor Vehicle Distribution (Fenabrave).

This expansion reflects a change in consumer behavior, seeking more efficient, economical, and connected vehicles without sacrificing performance or safety.

In this scenario, the Lecar Tactical represents a bet aligned with global trends, incorporating technical and design solutions typical of leading automotive markets.

The potential for national manufacturing may also boost the development of the local production chain, stimulating jobs, investments in technology, and greater autonomy against international competition.

Is the Brazilian market ready to adopt a national flex hybrid SUV with seven seats, capable of competing equally with imported models? Do you believe that the Lecar Tactical could transform the hybrid SUV segment in the country?
