14-Year-Old Student From Savoyard School, In The Savoie Region Of France, Develops Invention Motorized Spice Dispenser Called Distri-épices, Capable Of Automatically Locating Spice Containers; Project Won Second Place In The Innovate Contest By Sciences & Vie Junior And A Prize Of € 800

A 14-year-old student from the Savoyard school in the Savoie region of France was awarded after developing a motorized spice dispenser invention called Distri-épices, created to facilitate organization and access to spices in the kitchen.

The Dispenser Invention Created By A 14-Year-Old Student

Clément Sixt, a middle school student from Sonnaz, near Chambéry, developed Distri-épices after observing a common situation in many kitchens: the difficulty of quickly locating the correct jar of herbs or spices.

The spice dispenser invention secured the young inventor second place in the Innovate contest, sponsored by Sciences & Vie Junior in partnership with INPI, the French National Institute of Industrial Property.

In addition to the recognition, the student received a prize of € 800 and the satisfaction of seeing his idea work in practice. The project was created with the aim of simplifying routine tasks during meal preparation.

How The Distri-épices Spice Dispenser Works

The device developed by Clément functions as a motorized spice dispenser equipped with a rotating platform. The system uses a motor responsible for automatically positioning the desired jar at the access point.

When selecting the necessary spice, the tray rotates and presents the corresponding jar directly within the user’s reach. This way, the dispenser invention organizes the spices and reduces the time spent searching for jars inside the cabinet.

The principle of the equipment is simple, but it involves a mechanical mechanism capable of moving the tray loaded with various jars. This system allows all spices to remain centralized in a single device.

The Idea Came To Solve A Household Problem

The creation of Distri-épices arose from a daily situation observed in the student’s own home. According to Clément, his family’s spice cabinet often became an unorganized and difficult space to use.

The young student’s initial goal was to help his parents while experimenting with creating something new. The first proposal consisted of a rotating tray that would position each jar exactly in front of a point of access.

Despite the simple idea, turning the concept into a functional device required several attempts. The student needed to adjust the system so that the tray could rotate even when loaded with multiple spice jars.

Technical Challenges During Development

The most challenging stage of the project involved the mechanical part of the dispenser. The first motor chosen to move the system lacked sufficient power to rotate the tray with the jars positioned on it.

To solve the problem, it was necessary to modify the mechanism and work on controlling the motor’s torque. This adjustment allowed the system to have enough force to move the platform without compromising the device’s functionality.

After these adaptations, the prototype began to operate correctly. Currently, according to the student himself, the spice dispenser is used regularly by his parents in the kitchen.

Award And Recognition In The Innovate Contest

The spice dispenser invention received recognition in the Innovate contest, organized by Sciences & Vie Junior in partnership with INPI. The project received second place in the competition dedicated to ideas created by young inventors.

The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 1st, at the Musée des Arts et Métiers. The event brings together projects developed by students interested in science, technology, and innovation.

For Clément, the recognition represents an important step for the project. In addition to the financial prize, the award demonstrates that simple solutions can arise from observing everyday problems.

A Device Designed To Facilitate Organization In The Kitchen

The spice dispenser was conceived to solve several common difficulties during meal preparation. Among them are the time-consuming search for spices and the frequent disorganization of kitchen cabinets.

With the motorized system, the user can quickly find the necessary spice, avoiding clutter in the cabinet and reducing the time spent during food preparation. The device also helps to keep all jars concentrated in a single piece of equipment.

Another advantage is the prevention of minor accidents involving spilled or misplaced jars. By centralizing the jars in the rotating system, the device reduces the need to handle several containers simultaneously.

Young Inventors And Solutions For Everyday Problems

Distri-épices fits into a tradition of inventions created to solve simple everyday challenges. The project demonstrates how the observation of domestic tasks can lead to the development of practical solutions.

Even after receiving recognition in the contest, Clément stated that he does not intend to commercialize the device for now. However, he expressed willingness to manufacture the dispenser for people interested in the project.

The case of the student from Savoie also highlights the growing presence of young people involved in creative initiatives. Projects developed by teenagers continue to arise in various fields, reinforcing that innovative ideas can emerge at any age.
