With an installed capacity of 260,4 MW, the wind farms acquired by Copel increase its wind production capacity by 28%
Copel, Paranaense Energy Company, announced the acquisition, through its subsidiary Copel Geração e Transmissão, of the wind farms of the complexes of Santa Rosa & New World and Adventure, held by EDP Renováveis Brasil. The amount invested by the company was R $ 1,8 billion and, with this new acquisition, wind power now represents 17% of Copel's portfolio. This was done as part of the company's strategy to grow in renewable energy and diversify its generation matrix.
The complexes acquired by Copel have a total installed capacity of 260,4 MW together. With this transaction, the company's installed wind production capacity increased by 28%, and wind power now represents 17% of the company's generation portfolio. According to the executives, this results in a reduction of the company's exposure to hydrological risk.
Wind complexes acquired by Copel represent nine parks located in Rio Grande do Norte
The company claims that the Rio Grande do Norte is “considered one of the best regions in the world for power generation wind”. Copel points out that the complexes include nine parks that are already in operation and are located in the municipalities of Touros and São Tomé, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte.
It is estimated that around 76,5% of the energy generated in the complexes has already been sold in the regulated environment, while 13,7% of the energy was sold in the free environment, leaving only 9,8% of the energy available for new contracts.
The completion of the acquisition of wind farms by Copel still depends on the approval of CADE (Administrative Council for Economic Defense).
