Future Electric Kombi Conducts Tests in Rio de Janeiro
According to Lars Krause, member of the VWCV Board of Directors for Sales and Marketing, Volkswagen is very happy with the launch of its first electric Kombi of the future. Now, the company’s goal is to further expand production and deliver the vehicles to its customers and fans.
In recent months, Volkswagen has already managed to do this and, since September, has significantly expanded deliveries. For the company, the sales reach of the ID.Buzz represents good results regarding the transition to electric mobility.
Volkswagen claims that, just last year, it was responsible for over 330,000 registrations of electric cars worldwide, which represents an expansion of 23.6% compared to the previous year. Based on this, the German automaker expects to reach the mark of 55% of electric cars sold by the beginning of 2030. In September 2022, the company showcased the electric Kombi during the Rock In Rio music festival.
At that time, for example, there was no forecast for the utility’s debut in the country. However, the model is still undergoing tests on the country’s roads. Thus, in addition to dynamic evaluations made by the engineering team, the company is assessing public interest in the model.
Electric Kombi Features 204 Horsepower
With the action at the festival, the goal was to prepare for the launch of the ID electric line in the country. Until then, only the ID.4 SUV and the ID.3 hatchback had been properly presented by Volkswagen. The ID.4, in fact, is Volkswagen’s best-selling electric car in the world.
In the past year, 170,000 units were sold. This was expected to reach the Brazilian market last year. However, that did not happen. Now, the expectation is that the debut will occur later this year. With the entire first batch of 10,000 units sold out in Europe, the electric Kombi features an electric motor with 204 horsepower and a maximum torque of 31.6 mkgf.
The rear-wheel drive and the top speed are set at 145 km/h. Additionally, the revamped Kombi has 77 kWh batteries, capable of charging at stations of up to 170 kW. The model can charge from 5% to 80% in just half an hour. With a full charge, it has a range of 425 km.
GWM Develops Chinese Beetle with 544 Horsepower
In 2021, the Chinese company GWM unveiled its new electric compact, Punk Cat, an updated version of the VW Beetle. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) revealed last year that the model from Great Wall Motors has a power of 544 horsepower, generated by two electric motors of 299 and 245 horsepower.
The company’s model, in addition to the dual electric motors, has a single motor version. However, there is a significant weight difference, considering that the more powerful option weighs about 2,350 kg and the single motor is 105 kg lighter.
