The percentage that represents the lack of skilled labor in Brazil has undergone several fluctuations over the last ten years. Between 2012 and 2018, the index suffered a huge reduction, going from 71% to 34%. However, since 2019, the rate has been increasing, reaching now its highest value.

Worldwide, the percentage of labor shortages increased by six points compared to last year, thus reaching its highest level in 16 years. The average, of 75%, is double that obtained in 2015.

Wilma Dal Col highlights the influence of the pandemic on the results obtained by the survey

The director of strategic people management at ManpowerGroup, Wilma Dal Col, said, in an interview with CNN Rádio, that the pandemic acted to intensify the problem, despite not having caused it. According to her, every year, companies find it more difficult to fill vacancies, whether the simplest ones or those that require greater preparation and training.

Dal Col explains that these difficulties are linked to the advancement and development of technology, which has been bringing increasingly agile solutions and demanding the best of human competence. In this sense, qualified labor does not only consist of training and carrying out activities, but also corresponds to behaviors and human skills capable of making a difference.

The so-called soft skills, for example, require human beings to improve their capacity for relationships and integrated work.

Wilma also stated that, given the scenario presented, companies can opt for two alternatives: one short-term and the other a sustainable approach. The first would be to question how the company is attracting and retaining talent, whether it is using the best selection practices and offering what workers want. The second would be to work with the preparation of PROFESSIONALS, in order to make the company a pool of talent, not ready-made individuals.

On the other hand, the director also points out that the professional is also responsible for the change, since individual choices are part of it and that the value proposition for the career is in their hands.
