Latam Closes Largest Deal and Bets on Regional Expansion in South America; The Package Combines 24 Firm Jets and 50 Purchase Options.

Latam Closes The Largest Deal of The Decade with Embraer, Securing 24 E195-E2 Aircraft and Retaining 50 Options for Future Expansions. According to the portal IstoÉ Dinheiro, the value of firm deliveries is US$ 2.1 billion (at list price), consolidating a significant movement for regional aviation and for the Brazilian manufacturer.

Deliveries will begin in the second half of 2026, initially intended for Latam Airlines Brazil, with potential extension to other affiliates of the group.

The goal is to enhance connectivity in South America, strengthening the domestic and regional network with more efficient single-aisle aircraft.

The Size of The Deal and Its Impact

The announcement that Latam Closes The Largest Deal of The Decade with Embraer is not just about numbers: there are 24 firm deliveries and 50 options, a combination that provides predictability to the fleet plan while also offering flexibility to respond to demand.

The design of the order allows for speeding up or slowing down the expansion without compromising cash and schedule.

This format tends to reduce risks in a volatile market, preserving space for new routes and capacity adjustments.

For Embraer, the deal reinforces the competitiveness of the E195-E2 in the regional jet segment, with operational efficiency gains compared to previous models.

Why The E195-E2

The President and CEO of Embraer, Francisco Gomes Neto, points to the aircraft’s efficiency as a key factor in the choice.

The E195-E2 is designed for lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions, which decreases costs per seat, a differentiator on medium-density routes.

With suitable capacity for intermediate markets, the model allows for expanding offerings without relying on wide-bodies and increasing occupancy rates on domestic and regional routes.

In practice, Latam gains network flexibility and improves the profitability of routes that require single-aisle aircraft.

How Latam’s Fleet Will Be Impacted

The group’s current fleet totals 362 aircraft: 283 Airbus narrow-bodies, 3 Airbus wide-bodies on short-term leases, 56 Boeing wide-bodies, and 20 Boeing freighters.

IstoÉ Dinheiro details that the arrival of the E195-E2 diversifies the portfolio and opens up space for new regional destinations.

Since 2021, the passenger network has grown from 129 to 160 destinations, an increase of 24%. With the E195-E2, the trend is to accelerate the network’s reach, especially in regional hubs, shortening connections and expanding intra-South America connectivity.

Regional Expansion and Connectivity

The group’s CEO, Roberto Alvo, emphasizes that the last four years have been focused on domestic and regional expansion.

The new batch from Embraer supports the hub strategy, enabling more direct flights and better capacity distribution.

For Embraer, the deal consolidates the relationship with one of the largest networks in the region, strengthening the presence of the E195-E2 in the Latin American market.

In competitive terms, Latam gains momentum to compete on short and medium routes with optimized cost per seat, while passengers are likely to see more options for schedules and cities served — a concrete gain in convenience.

The confirmation that Latam closes the largest deal of the decade with Embraer reflects a bet on efficiency and regional network, with deliveries starting in 2026 and an order design prioritizing flexibility.

The package balances scale and prudence, aiming for sustainable growth.

Do you agree that this format of 24 firm + 50 options is the smartest for the moment? Does it change the competitive balance on regional routes?
