Free opportunity for distance language qualification attracts interested parties with limited spots and selection by order of registration, requiring attention to the deadline and organization to secure participation in courses offered by the Federal Institute of São Paulo.
The Federal Institute of São Paulo, at the Cubatão campus, has opened 80 free spots for English and Spanish courses in the distance learning format, with registration until March 30, 2026.
The selection will be made by order of registration, with no fee charged, and classes are scheduled to start on April 13.
Each course will have 70 hours of workload and a duration of seven weeks, within the activities of the Language Center, CELIN. The spots are equally divided between the two courses.

IFSP offers 40 opportunities for English – Notebook 1 – Module I and another 40 for Spanish – Notebook 1 – Module I, both in EAD format.
The only prerequisite stated in the announcement is to be at least 14 years old, with no requirement for registration or enrollment fees.
The opening of the process was formalized by Announcement No. 3/2026 — DAEX-CBT/DRG/CBT/IFSP, published on March 13, 2026.
The document establishes that the simplified selection process will be conducted by the Extension Adjunct Directorate of the campus and will follow both the broad competition and the reservation policy for spots provided for the selection.
Distribution of spots in the English and Spanish courses of IFSP
In each course, the announcement reserves 70% of the spots for broad competition, equivalent to 28 places.
Another 25% is allocated to PPIQ candidates, a group formed by self-declared black, brown, indigenous, and quilombola individuals, which represents 10 spots per class.
5% is reserved for people with disabilities, totaling two spots in each course.
In the case of spots aimed at the quilombola community, the campus requires a declaration of belonging signed by three community leaders linked to the local association.
For candidates with disabilities, proof must be provided with a recent medical report, presented at the time of enrollment, which may occur either in person or online, as provided in the announcement.
There is also an important rule regarding the offering of classes.
IFSP informs that if at least 70% of the spots planned for each course are not filled, the campus may decide not to conduct that offering.
In practice, this means that the interest of candidates also influences the definitive confirmation of the classes opened in this process.
Selection by order of registration defines classification
The classification criterion adopted by the Cubatão campus is straightforward.
The first registered candidates who meet the stipulated requirements will be considered, respecting the separation between broad competition and reserved spots.
This eliminates tests and curriculum analysis at this stage and makes the registration deadline a decisive factor for those who want to secure a spot.
In addition to the immediate spots, the process will also form a waiting list equivalent to 20% of the total offered.
These names may be called in case of cancellations registered up to 25% of the course workload.
The announcement also stipulates that the same criteria for reserved spots must be maintained in the composition of this supplementary list.
Although the selection is simplified, the calendar for the process is already defined.
The preliminary list of registered and classified candidates will be published on April 1, 2026.
The period for submitting appeals is set for April 2 and 3, while the final list of classified candidates and the waiting list is expected to be released on April 6, on the official website of the campus.
Enrollment, documents, and rules for certification
Selected candidates must confirm their enrollment between April 7 and 12, 2026, responding to the email sent by the Extension Adjunct Directorate.
The announcement states that the necessary documentation must already be attached at the time of registration and warns that the absence of any required document may lead to the loss of the spot.
Among the required documents are official photo ID, CPF, and recent proof of address.
Depending on the case, the campus may also request a medical report or other proofs related to the prerequisites of the contested spot.
The start of classes is scheduled for April 13, 2026, although the announcement itself emphasizes that this date may be changed or extended if necessary.
Certification also has defined criteria.
The student will only be entitled to the certificate if they achieve a minimum overall attendance of 75% and obtain a performance considered sufficient, according to the parameters established in the Course Pedagogical Project.
This requirement applies to both courses offered by CELIN at the Cubatão campus.
Free language courses expand access to education
The new offering from IFSP Cubatão reinforces a recurring front of federal institutes: expanding access to short-duration courses with free registration and simplified entry.
In this case, the distance learning format reduces barriers to commuting and allows candidates from different routines to try for a spot in two areas with constant demand in the market and academic life.
Another point that stands out is the combination of remote format and inclusion policy.
By maintaining cuts for broad competition, PPIQ, and people with disabilities, the announcement follows a design that seeks to distribute opportunities within already defined public criteria.
At the same time, the minimum age requirement of 14 years opens space for adolescents and young people who wish to begin formal study of a language in a free course.
How to register for the EAD courses of IFSP Cubatão
Registrations must be made exclusively online, between March 16 and 30, 2026, until 11:59 PM.
The Cubatão campus has made specific forms available for each course, one for English and another for Spanish, in addition to the complete announcement with all the rules of the selection process.
Those who wish to participate need to fill out the form corresponding to the desired course within the deadline, attach the requested documentation, and follow the next steps on the official portal of IFSP Cubatão.
