Licensing Schedule 2025 Has Already Started in São Paulo; Check Values, Deadlines, and What Changes in the Digital Process of the Document. Noncompliance Can Result in Fines, Points on the Driver’s License, and Vehicle Seizure.

The licensing calendar for 2025 for vehicles registered in the State of São Paulo has been in effect since early July, according to the São Paulo State Department of Transit (Detran-SP).

Vehicle owners with plates ending in 1 and 2 have until the end of the month to regularize their documentation and avoid penalties, while the others with different plate endings will follow staggered deadlines until December of this year.

The requirement for annual licensing remains an essential condition for regular circulation throughout São Paulo territory.

The annual vehicle licensing process is regulated across Brazil, with São Paulo being the state with the largest fleet of vehicles in the country.

In 2025, Detran-SP reported that, by the end of June, about 7.9 million vehicles had already been licensed in advance.

However, approximately 21.9 million automobiles, motorcycles, trucks, buses, and similar vehicles still need to undergo the mandatory procedure in the coming months.

Licensing Calendar SP 2025

The schedule established by Detran-SP for licensing in 2025 sets deadlines according to the end of the vehicle’s license plate.

For cars, vans, pickup trucks, buses, minibuses, motorcycles, and similar vehicles, the calendar is as follows:

  • Plate ending in 1 and 2: July
  • Plate ending in 3 and 4: August
  • Plate ending in 5 and 6: September
  • Plate ending in 7 and 8: October
  • Plate ending in 9: November
  • Plate ending in 0: December

For trucks and tractors, the licensing deadline follows a different rhythm:

  • Ends 1 and 2: September
  • Ends 3, 4, and 5: October
  • Ends 6, 7, and 8: November
  • Ends 9 and 0: December

Noncompliance with these deadlines constitutes a serious violation, according to the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB), with strict consequences for the owner.

Licensing Fee 2025 SP

The licensing fee for 2025 has been set at R$ 167.74 for all categories of vehicles, reflecting a 4.69% increase compared to the amount charged in 2024.

The fee is singular, without differentiation by vehicle type or purpose.

Since 2021, there has been no incidence of compulsory insurance DPVAT (Personal Injury Caused by Motor Vehicles), suspended throughout the national territory, which reduces the total amount of taxes collected annually.

To issue the licensing document, the owner must fully settle the IPVA 2025, as well as any traffic fines or other debts related to the vehicle.

Only after settling all outstanding issues can the Electronic Vehicle Registration and Licensing Certificate (CRLV-e) be generated, a digital document essential for circulation.

How to Regularize Licensing

The payment for licensing can be conveniently made through the internet banking of accredited banks, via Detran-SP’s website, or at authorized lottery houses.

The owner can also access the Digital Traffic Wallet (CDT) app, available for Android and iOS, where the CRLV-e is provided immediately after payment confirmation.

The document can be saved on the cell phone, printed, or presented directly through the app during inspections.

The official Detran-SP app also allows users to check debts, verify fines, generate payment guides, and track the status of regularization.

The use of the CRLV-e fully replaces the physical paper document, ensuring greater practicality, security, and speed.

If necessary, printing can be done on regular copy paper, as long as the QR Code remains legible for verification by traffic agents.

Consequences of Expired Licensing

Driving a vehicle with expired licensing is considered a serious violation under the Brazilian Traffic Code, resulting in a fine of R$ 293.47, an addition of seven points to the National Driver’s License (CNH), and the towing of the vehicle to an accredited yard.

To facilitate the release in these cases, Detran-SP launched the LIVE (Instant Vehicle Release) system, which allows for the digital regularization of the seized vehicle.

With LIVE, the owner can check debts, make payments via PIX or at authorized banks, and digitally sign the necessary documentation, accessing the system with gov.br login at silver or gold levels.

The release order is issued immediately, allowing for the retrieval of the vehicle from the yard without the need for lines or long waiting times.

Before the implementation of the tool, the process could take up to 48 hours; now, the estimated time is just a few minutes.

Guidelines to Avoid Licensing Issues

To avoid delays and possible inconveniences, it is recommended to check for debts and arrange payment of the IPVA and any fines well in advance.

Using Detran-SP’s digital channels ensures speed, as well as greater control over the process.

The owner should pay attention to the calendar, as noncompliance with deadlines can result in financial and administrative penalties.

Companies with vehicle fleets should adopt a specific plan, considering the number of vehicles and the different deadlines according to the plate endings.

The digitization of services allows for greater efficiency in monitoring legal obligations and reduces the risk of vehicles being blocked due to lack of regularization.

Is Licensing SP 2025 Mandatory for Everyone?

Yes, the licensing calendar SP 2025 applies to all categories of vehicles registered in the State of São Paulo.

The requirement applies to individuals, legal entities, individual owners, or transport companies.

With the advancement of digitization, processes have become faster and more transparent, but attention to deadlines is crucial to avoid surprises and extra costs.
