The Expansion of the Distribution Center
Wiliam Miguel states that “currently we have one operation serving Netshoes deliveries and another serving Época Cosméticos deliveries. Thus, our expansion operation for the Netshoes distribution center in Minas Gerais will be divided into two locations, having one main distribution center and this new ‘annex’,” he explains.
Magazine Luiza did not disclose the investment amount due to the disclosure restriction period for investments by the Stock Exchange and because it is a publicly traded company. The expansion of the DC in Minas Gerais will be 14 kilometers from the current location in Extrema. According to Wiliam Miguel, the new venture will generate 500 direct jobs and around 1,000 indirect jobs. “It is expected that by the end of this year another 300 direct jobs will be created due to year-end demand. These 1,000 indirect jobs in Minas Gerais are for people who are being impacted solely by the expansion that is already underway,” Miguel reinforces.

Job Generation in the State of Minas Gerais
With the inauguration scheduled for the first week of September, the distribution center expansion will operate with sports products. The location will distribute only soccer shoes, balls, swimming materials, shirts, gym bags, and other varieties from the sports world. Wiliam Miguel clarifies that the choice to remain in Extrema, in southern Minas Gerais, was due to the logistics already established in the location, as well as the quality of the workforce and being in a geographically strategic point for service in the Southeast region of Brazil.
The job opportunities available at the distribution center in Minas Gerais are for operational, administrative, health, and safety areas. Interested individuals can check the available positions, as well as the requirements to apply, on the Magalu website. The mining company Sigma Lithium will invest R$ 859.4 million to produce high-purity lithium at the border between Araçuaí and Itinga, in the Jequitinhonha Valley, northern Minas Gerais. The company started this month the earthworks for the production and processing plant at Grota do Cirilo, in Itinga. This will be the first plant of its kind in the country, and the expectation is to complete the work in 2022, when it will start producing 220,000 tons per year of lithium concentrate.
During the construction of the mining site in Minas Gerais, around 400 jobs may be created, reaching up to 6,000 indirect jobs, according to the company. Sigma also states that the operation will be 100% digitized and electronically automated, controlled by an algorithm. Sustainable technologies have been adopted, such as 100% water recirculation, 100% dry stacking of waste (without the use of dams), and the use of 100% renewable energy.
