WEG Completes First Phase of Practical 5G Technology Tests at Its Factory in Jaraguá do Sul. Results Are Positive and 5G Could Boost Industry 4.0
WEG announced the completion of the first phase of practical connectivity tests to the 5G network of the WEG/V2COM Open Lab. The company’s project is carried out in partnership with the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI) and the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), and had its first “tests” a few days ago at one of WEG’s factories, located in Jaraguá do Sul, Santa Catarina. WEG’s objective is to test the connectivity of various devices and equipment to the 5G network, contributing to the creation of economically viable solutions for industry using 5G technology.

According to Guilherme Spina, director of V2COM, a company of the WEG Group, the company conducted tests evaluating the coexistence and performance of devices and antennas with the technology in a real factory environment in Jaraguá do Sul, in order to gather information on frequency ranges, power, latency, and other characteristics relevant to industrial applications, which will also contribute to the Public Consultation conducted by Anatel.

How much does it cost to make a radier? A shallow foundation can speed up the construction and reduce stages, but poorly compacted soil, excess load, and design errors can turn the concrete slab into cracks, structural settlements, and much higher expenses later on.
According to the executive, the first results at the Jaraguá do Sul factory already demonstrate that 5G technology offers high levels of security, stability, traffic quality, and high speed, surpassing the 3G and 4G technologies previously offered.
According to Spina, the transfer rate, or the amount of data that can be sent per second between devices in download or upload, showed that 5G technology is far more advanced compared to 4G and Wi-Fi technologies, but the main advantage of the 5G connection is its reliability, which ensures that data is private and can be received much more stably between devices, making the industry more agile and resilient.
Factory Tests in Jaraguá do Sul in SC Provide Information to Anatel
All tests in the factory were conducted using more than one network simultaneously. A private network with local infrastructure and a network provided by a telecom operator, aimed at gathering data and information for Anatel and supporting the process of defining the requirements and conditions for the use of frequency bands, for the granting and regulation of private networks for industrial use in Brazil.
For Anatel, the practical results will contribute to the evaluation of 5G’s capabilities, particularly regarding the characteristics of operation in the industry, observing the limits of power radiation defined in regulations.
