Antônio Batista da Silva worked in the construction of Goiânia, witnessing the growth of the new capital and noticing something simple. The more people arrived, the greater the demand for food, fruits, and fresh products.

While many saw only construction, concrete, and trucks, he saw opportunity in the fields. In 1947, Antônio made a decision that seemed crazy at the time: to plant jabuticaba on a commercial scale. Until then, jabuticaba trees were backyard trees, fruits for home consumption, and no one took the idea of making a living from it seriously.

He started with a few seedlings, tending to the orchard in his spare time while continuing in construction to support his family. His wife helped before the sun rose, the children joined in while still young, and everything was done based on persistence, faith, and quiet work. Jabuticaba trees take about six years to produce. It was years of waiting, of cleared land, of plants protected from the intense sun of the cerrado, with absolutely no guarantee that the project would succeed.

When Did Jabuticaba Become A Family And Regional Business

The first harvest changed everything. Jabuticabas began to be sold at fairs in Goiânia and soon attracted attention for their sweet flavor and distinctive aroma. Customers asked when there would be more, word of mouth spread, and Antônio realized he had hit the nail on the head.

Little by little, the orchard grew. He bought more land, planted more trees, structured the jabuticaba production, and transformed that discredited idea into a real business. Today, the Jabuticabal farm directly employs about 120 people from the same family, including children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and in-laws. Many of the trees planted in 1947 are still standing, over 75 years old, producing fruit year after year.

The impact was not limited to the farm itself. The region of Hidrolândia specialized in the crop. There are over 120 registered jabuticaba producers, totaling more than 67,000 trees and a jabuticaba production that exceeds two thousand tons per harvest. The structure includes a restaurant with homemade food, a café, an ice cream shop, a brewery, and a store of artisanal products. Everything is designed to transform the visit into a complete experience of rural tourism in Goiás, uniting nature, gastronomy, family, and real agricultural production, operating at full capacity.

Wine, Jams, And Innovation In Jabuticaba Production

To handle so much fruit and avoid waste, the family decided to take a step further. In 1999, the winery was born within the Jabuticabal Farm, enhancing the value of jabuticaba production with new products.

Today, besides fresh fruit, the largest jabuticaba farm in the world produces jabuticaba wine, liqueurs, jams, canned sweets, and special barbecue sauces, all made with the fruit from the property. It is a clear example of how agriculture can combine tradition, agribusiness, and value addition in the same place.

Jabuticaba wine has a unique, slightly sweet flavor, and has become part of the farm’s identity. With each harvest, it reinforces the logic of a business that does not limit itself to selling fresh fruit but bets on variety, its own brand, and visitor experiences.

Some adventurers manage to reach a thousand, two thousand fruits, but the body can’t take it. To this day, no one has even come close to completing the challenge.

Behind all this structure of jabuticaba production, tourism, and legend, lies a simple yet powerful fruit. The dark, shiny skin conceals a pulp rich in iron, vitamin C, and B-complex vitamins, making jabuticaba a food that combines pleasure and health benefits.

The jabuticaba trees, in turn, are typically Brazilian trees, native to the Atlantic Forest, capable of living for many decades and producing for years on end. At the largest jabuticaba farm in the world, some have been part of the same family for over 70 years, spanning generations and marking the history of a piece of Goiás.

Above all, the farm is a great portrait of persistence.
