Legal Benefits Allow Travel on the Vitória–Minas Train for Free or at a Discount According to Age, Income, and Required Documentation on an Interstate Journey of 664 Kilometers Between Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, Operated by Vale, With Limited Seats Per Trip.

Traveling on the Vitória–Minas Train can be low-cost or even free for certain groups, provided that passengers meet the criteria established by law and observe the limited number of seats per trip.

The service is operated by Vale and connects Minas Gerais to Espírito Santo over a route of 664 kilometers, with 30 stations distributed along the way.

Discounts and free rides are not automatically granted.

In all cases, the passenger must present the required documentation at the time of purchase and again upon boarding.

Furthermore, the release depends on the availability of seats in the indicated class for each type of benefit.

Children up to 5 years old are entitled to free rides on the Vitória–Minas Train, provided they travel on the lap of the responsible adult.

The rule allows only one child in this condition per paying passenger.

According to Vale, this requirement aims to ensure the safety and organization of boarding.

When a child or baby is transported in a car seat occupying a seat, the journey no longer qualifies as “on the lap.”

In this situation, it is necessary to purchase an additional ticket, even if the child is under 5 years old.

The company informs that the car seat can be taken as long as it meets the dimensions of the seat.

Charging begins from 6 years old, appearing with different guidelines in the operator’s service materials.

In some of the disclosed information, it is indicated that children from this age pay the full fare.

In other sections, there is a reference to a differentiated fare for passengers between 6 and 11 years old, depending on the segment, with full charges starting at 12.

Vale advises that the passenger confirm the applicable rule at the time of purchase.

Free Fare and Discount for Seniors on the Interstate Train

The Statute for the Elderly guarantees two free tickets per train for people aged 60 or older, provided their individual income is equal to or less than two minimum wages.

On the Vitória–Minas Train, the benefit is valid for interstate trips and applies exclusively to economy class.

If the two free seats are already occupied, the legislation provides an alternative.

In this situation, the elderly person can request a 50% discount on the ticket price, also restricted to economy class.

The concession follows the same logic of availability per trip.

To prove income, Vale informs that it accepts documents such as pay stubs, updated work cards, proof of social security benefits, or records issued by social assistance agencies, according to current regulations.

Youth ID Ensures Free Fare and Half-Price Ticket

Youths aged 15 to 29 years, members of low-income families registered in Cadastro Único, can utilize the Youth ID benefit on the Vitória–Minas Train.

To do so, it is necessary to present a valid Youth Identity, issued by the official channels of the program.

National regulations establish the reservation of two free seats per train composition.

After these seats are filled, another two can be sold at a 50% discount on the same train.

Vale adopts this model for the service of the Vitória a Minas Railroad, always conditioned to availability and the presentation of required documentation.

People with Disabilities and the Right to a Companion

According to information from the operator, the Vitória–Minas Train has a wagon adapted for passengers in wheelchairs, equipped with air conditioning and adequate space for movement.

There are also specific seats designated for people with mobility difficulties.

Free fare for people with disabilities is granted in economy class, upon presentation of documentation that proves the condition.

In situations where the need for a companion is identified during service, the company informs that the free fare can be extended to the companion, provided there is an available seat.

As with other benefits, the release is subject to the limited number of seats per trip and the verification of documents at the time of purchase and boarding.

Ticket Purchase and Operational Rules

Tickets for the Vitória–Minas Train can be purchased through the Vale website, the Passenger Train app, or at sales points along the railway.

Even free tickets must be issued in advance to guarantee the right to board.

The ticket is personal, and the company advises that the data be checked carefully.

Name changes can be made up to 24 hours before departure.

Cancellations are allowed up to six hours before boarding, with a fee imposed.

Rescheduling follows specific deadline and fee rules, as informed through official channels.

Payment can be made in cash or card.

In digital purchases, there is the possibility of installments, while in physical ticket offices the conditions may vary depending on the point of sale.

Route, Stations, and On-Board Services

Considered the largest regular passenger railway route in operation in the country, the Vitória–Minas Train travels 664 kilometers and serves 30 stations in Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo.

Among the cities along the way are João Monlevade, Ipatinga, Governador Valadares, and Aimorés, in addition to other municipalities from both states.

During the journey, passengers have access to on-board service, with the sale of snacks and beverages in the cars and the operation of a restaurant, as disclosed by the operator.

The structure also includes climate control and spaces adapted to accommodate different user profiles.

Given the rules, limits on seats, and documentation requirements, have you been able to utilize any of the free rides or discounts on the Vitória–Minas Train, or have you encountered difficulties in the ticket issuance process?
