More Than Two Thousand Jobs Will Be Created With The Opening Of Two New Factories By Maratá. With A Mega Multimillion Investment, The Company Plans To Expand Its Focus To New Areas In The Market.
The Maratá Group, known for its strong presence in the Brazilian market, is making a big bet in Sergipe with a mega investment of R$ 700 million. The plan? To open two new factories in the state: one focused on pasta production and another for cookies. These new plants promise to boost the local economy, creating over two thousand jobs directly and indirectly. And it doesn’t stop there! The project is part of a strategic plan that reinforces the company’s commitment to the development of the region.
Maratá, A Success Story From Sergipe
Founded in 1962, the José Augusto Vieira Business Group, better known as the Maratá Group, began its journey in Sergipe and is now a reference in various sectors. With seven active factories, the group operates in areas such as food industry, construction, agriculture, and even commerce and export. With more than 5,300 employees, the company is one of the largest employers in the region and continues to grow.
Recently, Maratá sold its coffee and tea division to the Dutch giant Jacobs Douwe Egberts (JDE Peet’s), the largest company in the sector worldwide. This change allowed the company to focus on new areas and investments, such as the upcoming pasta and cookie factories.

Mega Investment In Factories And Expansion
The mega investment in Sergipe unfolds into two major projects. The first factory will be dedicated to pasta production and will be installed in the new Industrial District of São Cristóvão, on the banks of BR-101. With an investment of over R$ 300 million, the factory is expected to be operational by 2026.
The second plant, focused on cookie production, is in the study phase and will be built in the municipality of Lagarto. This project involves an even larger investment, of approximately R$ 400 million. Together, the two factories will create more than two thousand jobs, boosting the local economy and further strengthening the Maratá Group’s position in the national market.
Government Support And Tax Incentives
The success of this mega investment would not be possible without the support of the Government of Sergipe, which, through the Sergipe Industrial Development Program (PSDI), has offered tax and locational incentives for companies wishing to expand or set up in the state. The PSDI was crucial for the installation of the group’s wheat mill, which began operations this May in the new Industrial District of São Cristóvão.
According to the executive director of the Maratá Group, Frank Vieira, natural gas is one of the key points for these new factories to operate efficiently. “It is necessary for the gas company of Sergipe to enable the implementation of natural gas both in the Industrial District of São Cristóvão and in the municipality of Lagarto,” Vieira highlighted during the project’s presentation to Governor Fábio Mitidieri.
The governor, in turn, expressed full support for the project, emphasizing the importance of the Maratá Group for the economic development of Sergipe. “We are excited about the benefits these projects will bring to the people of Sergipe, from job creation to strengthening our economy,” Mitidieri stated.
Economic Impact And Job Creation
With more than two thousand jobs to be created by the new factories, the economic impact will be considerable for the region. The State Secretary of Economic Development, Valmor Barbosa, reiterated the importance of the project: “The Maratá brand greatly contributes to the development of our state. The government will continue to provide a competitive business environment, with tax and locational incentives.”
The new pasta factory and the cookie plant will not only create direct jobs but also strengthen the local production chain. From suppliers to distributors, the entire ecosystem surrounding these industries benefits, generating more jobs and growth opportunities for other companies in the region.
The Social Commitment Of The Maratá Group
In addition to being a powerhouse in the industrial sector, the Maratá Group is also known for its social commitment. The company develops various initiatives aimed at the local community through the José Augusto Vieira Foundation, established in 1993. The foundation offers free early childhood and primary education, as well as initiatives aimed at generating jobs and income in partnership with institutions like Senai and Senac.
In recent years, the group has allocated more than R$ 600,000 to social projects, such as the donation of a Training Center for Lar Feliz, in Juazeiro (BA), which aims to transform the lives of young people in situations of social vulnerability. This type of action shows that, in addition to generating jobs, Maratá is also committed to the social development of the regions it operates in.
With these new mega investments, the Maratá Group reinforces its presence in Sergipe and consolidates itself as one of the main players in the economic development of the state. The new pasta and cookie factories are just another step in the company’s growth trajectory, which continues to innovate and invest in the future.
