Selection Process Offers Structured Training, Financial Aid, and Mandatory Internship for Admission in 2026
The registration for the selection process for admission to the Merchant Marine Officers Training Schools of the Merchant Marine (EFOMM) is open, with 388 spots available for candidates with a complete high school education. The registration will be open from May 20 to June 2, 2025. The spots are divided between the Almirante Graça Aranha Instruction Center (CIAGA) in Rio de Janeiro, with 224 spots, and the Almirante Braz de Aguiar Instruction Center (CIABA) in Belém, with 164 spots. Those approved will participate in a free higher technical course, with logistical support, boarding, and mandatory internship.
Requirements to Participate in the Selection
According to the announcement, interested candidates must be between 17 and 23 years old as of January 1, 2026, be native or naturalized Brazilians, have a complete high school education by February 2, 2026, and be up to date with electoral and military obligations. It is also necessary to be single, have no dependents, and have a height between 1.54 m and 2.00 m. The selection process also requires physical, psychological, and medical fitness, according to the stages outlined in the schedule officially released by the Directorate of Ports and Coasts of the Brazilian Navy.
Registration Period and Stages of the Selection Process
Registrations must be made exclusively through the official Navy website between May 20 and June 2, 2025. The fee is R$ 100, with the possibility of exemption for candidates who meet the socioeconomic criteria stipulated in the announcement. The selection process organization will conduct the written test on August 2 and 3, with questions in Portuguese, English, Mathematics, Physics, and Essay. Between September 30 and November 7, the organizers will conduct the psychophysical evaluation of the candidates approved in the first stage. They will administer the physical fitness test between November 24 and December 5, according to the official schedule released. From January 12 to 30, 2026, the team will perform document verification for candidates approved in the previous stages. The institution has scheduled the enrollment of selected candidates for February 2, 2026.

Benefits During the Training Course
During the course, lasting six academic semesters, students will be on a boarding regime and will have access to accommodation, meals, uniforms, and medical and dental assistance. The program will provide a monthly financial aid of R$ 1,644.92, following current regulations. Upon completing the theoretical training, students will undergo a minimum 12-month onboard internship. Upon finishing the course, the student will receive a bachelor’s degree in Nautical Science. The Brazilian Navy will include them in the Reserve Officer Corps as a second lieutenant, according to naval legislation criteria.
