Register by January 15, 2025, and revolutionize your education!

The chance to transform your career is within reach! Have you ever thought about studying at renowned universities in the United States, improving your English, and bringing new methodologies to the classroom?

The Ministry of Education (MEC), in partnership with CAPES and the Fulbright Commission, has just opened registrations for a groundbreaking training program, and the best part: completely free of charge.

With 270 spots available, English teachers in the public basic education network will be able to embark on this journey, enhancing their skills and contributing to a higher quality of education in Brazil.

Opportunity for Public Network Teachers

The Professional Development Program for English Language Teachers (PDPI) is the chance for educators to improve their linguistic and pedagogical competencies, with an intensive experience in the United States.

In total, there will be 270 spots distributed by state and the Federal District, and CAPES is looking for teachers with different levels of English proficiency, meaning that whether you have beginner, intermediate, or advanced level, you can apply!

How Does the Intensive Course in the USA Work?

This six-week course is designed to empower English teachers, offering a unique immersion in the North American educational system.

The Fulbright Commission, which collaborates with CAPES, explains that the program aims to provide quality training that allows teachers to bring new methodologies and approaches back to Brazil.

During the experience, teachers will have the opportunity to explore the local culture, participate in workshops, and learn from the best.

According to CAPES, upon returning to Brazil, the goal is for these teachers to become multipliers, applying everything they learned and contributing to elevate the level of English teaching in the country.

To participate, educators must meet certain requirements that ensure a beneficial experience for all.

Who Can Participate in This Free Program?

To apply, it is necessary to meet a series of criteria established in Notice No. 27/2024.

Registrations are open until January 15, 2025, and the process is simple: just access the Fulbright Commission’s website, fill out the online form, and ensure that you meet the requirements. Among the required criteria are:

  • Residency in Brazil: Only Brazilian citizens or foreigners with permanent residence in the country will be able to apply.
  • Connection to the public network: The candidate must be a tenured teacher, have completed their probationary period, and be teaching English in the public education system (federal, state, municipal, or district).
  • TOEFL Score: It is necessary to achieve at least 400 points on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL ITP), which will be used to prove the candidate’s level of English.

This training will be held at the best universities in the United States, with an intense routine of academic activities, such as pedagogical development workshops, material preparation, and content adaptation for various age groups.

All aimed at improving English teaching as a foreign language.

What Are the Benefits of This Experience for Brazil?

The program’s impact goes far beyond language learning. By providing high-quality training for teachers, CAPES aims to transform the way English is taught in Brazilian public schools.

Investing in teacher training is a national strategy to improve English teaching, preparing students for a future where proficiency in foreign languages is an essential skill.

The international experience will be a unique opportunity for teachers to acquire knowledge that they would hardly access in national courses.

In addition, the cultural exchange during the program will allow teachers to implement new teaching approaches and techniques in Brazilian classrooms.

Course Structure and Expected Activities

The course in the United States will be intensive and will have diversified curricular components. Each week, teachers will participate in workshops, in-person classes, and practical activities.

CAPES emphasizes that the course is not just about mastering the English language, but also about acquiring pedagogical skills, such as material development and content adaptation for different audiences and age groups.

The goal of the partnership with the Fulbright Commission is to ensure that upon returning to Brazil, educators are ready to apply the new methodologies and inspire their students to delve deeper into the study of English.

This program promises to be a game changer in public education in Brazil, bringing benefits not only to teachers but also to students, creating a virtuous cycle of learning.

How to Sign Up and Secure Your Spot

If you are an English teacher in the public network and wish to embark on this journey, registration is open until January 15, 2025.

To register, just visit the Fulbright Commission’s website, fill out the form, and ensure that you meet all the required criteria.

The full notice is available on the CAPES website, where you will also find all the necessary information to register.
