With a total of 300 spots, the Portuguese as an Additional Language (PLA) Course promises to cater to Spanish and English speakers interested in improving their skills in the Brazilian language.

Free and Flexible Course
According to Public Notice No. 103/2024, published on December 10, the course will last 250 hours and will be taught entirely online, through the Moodle platform, ensuring flexibility and accessibility for students from different backgrounds and locations.
The PLA is structured in modules that cater to different levels of knowledge and objectives of the participants:
- E-TEC Portuguese as an Additional Language for Spanish Speakers – Module 1: Recommended for those with basic Spanish knowledge who have never attended a formal Portuguese course.
- E-TEC Portuguese as an Additional Language for Spanish Speakers – Module 2: Aimed at those who already have prior experience in the language and can provide certification from a previous course.
- E-TEC Portuguese as an Additional Language for English Speakers: Available in distinct modules, adjusted to the schedules and needs of English speakers.
Each class will consist of two online meetings per week, over 15 weeks of classes, with lessons lasting up to two hours to facilitate content assimilation.
Who Can Enroll?
According to the Federal Institute, the course is open to anyone interested in learning Portuguese as an additional language.
There is no need to reside in Brazil or be part of the internal IFSP community to enroll.
The only requirements are: to have an Identification Document with CPF or a valid Passport and, in the case of Module 2, to present a proof of certification from the previous course.
The initiative aims not only to teach the basics of the Portuguese language but also to facilitate cultural integration in Brazil.
According to the public notice, the course seeks to enrich the linguistic repertoire of participants and promote interaction with Brazilian culture.
Enrollment and Selection Process
Enrollment for the course begins on December 18, 2024, at 9 AM (Brasília time), and ends on February 10, 2025, at 11:59 PM. Interested individuals must fill out the form available at the end of the article.
The selection will be made in the order of application, giving priority to the first candidates who meet the requirements described in the public notice. If all spots are not filled, there will be no waiting list.
Those selected will receive an email confirming their enrollment and will have until February 27, 2025, to finalize it.
The course is scheduled to begin on March 17, 2025, and end on July 5 of the same year.
