The Called Owner Engineering Emerges as a Catalyst for Technical Expertise in the Success of Development in This Market

The heating of the renewable energy market has transformed Brazil into a large green construction site. There are 84 wind farms in the project phase and 21 under construction, in addition to the increase in solar plants that have placed the country in 14th position among the nations with the highest solar generation capacity.

Behind this boom is a transformation in the concept of construction sites, with the growing role of owner engineering.

The function arises from the need to achieve maximum efficiency in the intensive use of technology, without neglecting environmental and social responsibilities, even in projects located outside major centers and facing significant logistical challenges.

In this way, engineering offices, specialists in different phases of construction, have taken on the entire scope of project development, including the purchase of equipment and materials for the work, as well as overseeing the construction process, literally acting as if they were the owner’s eyes.

This is a management activity within construction engineering, which adapts easily to all types of enterprises. With the development of technology and growing environmental goals, work methodologies are becoming increasingly rigorous and attentive.

According to the founding partner of afaplan, Gonçalo Sousa Soares, “this is an activity that requires discipline, as well as a well-trained team with advanced technical and technological knowledge, to ensure excellence at every phase of the work.”

According to the entrepreneur, “in this type of engineering, the project review, for example, is an activity that adds significant value to the enterprise, as at this stage problems are detected that can be resolved quickly and economically, but if not adjusted, will lead to high costs during the construction phase.”

With over 35 years in the market and experience managing projects in 14 countries, afaplan is one of the leading global references in this sector. The company established an exclusive area for renewable energy projects seven years ago and is now reaping the rewards of that strategy: it has delivered 16 GW in projects worldwide, being the record-holder in Brazil with 10 GW developed. Additionally, it is also responsible for owner engineering in another 14 renewable energy projects currently underway in the country.
