Even With An Accumulation Of Fines Exceeding R$ 1.2 Million In The State Of Minas Gerais, The Mining Company Gute Sicht Continues Its Excavation Operations In The Areas Of Serra Do Curral And Causes Even More Environmental Impacts In The State.

The Government Of The State Of Minas Gerais Has Already Imposed More Than R$ 1.2 Million In Fines For Environmental Impacts On The Mining Company Gute Sicht To Date, Due To Its Illegal Operations In Areas Protected By The City Hall Of Belo Horizonte In The Serra Do Curral. However, The Company Has Not Commented On Its Operations And Continues To Mine In The Region This Saturday, (06/25), Ignoring The Consequences Of Mining In Protected Areas.

Environmental Impacts Caused By The Excavation Of The Mining Company Gute Sicht In The State Of Minas Gerais Already Generate Fines Of R$ 1.2 Million And The Company Maintains Operations

The City Hall Of The Capital Minas Gerais Belo Horizonte Recently Released Data On The Imposition Of Fines On Companies In The Mining Sector In The Region, And The Results For The Mining Company Gute Sicht Are Alarming. This Is Because The PBH Informs That The Mining Company Gute Sicht Has Already Accumulated 18 Violations, Totaling R$ 1,268,656.75 In Fines, For Causing Environmental Degradation And For Non-Compliance With The Municipal Interdiction In The Region.

The Company Currently Operates Excavation And Dumping In Areas Designated By The City Hall Of The Capital As Belonging To The Serra Do Curral Region And Has Been Causing A Series Of Environmental Impacts In The Area.

Thus, The Boa Vista Mine Project Was Interdicted By The BH City Hall On May 25 And The Municipal Attorney General Is Challenging The Company’s And The AGE’s Manifestation In The 5th Court Of The Treasury. Therefore, The Mining Company Is Not Only Ignoring The Recommendations Of The State Government But Also Accumulating New Fines For Environmental Impacts.

Moreover, The State Government Found That Excavation Operations In The Serra Do Curral Region By Gute Sicht Were Intensified When Attention Was Focused On The Licensing Of Taquaril Mineração S/A (Tamisa) Granted By The State Council For Environmental Policy (Copam) And The State Secretary Of Environment And Sustainable Development (Semad) At The Beginning Of This Month.

Thus, The Company Used The Moment As A Smoke Screen To Continue Its Operations And Further Degrade The Environment In The Region.

The Belo Horizonte Prosecutor’s Office Highlights That The Excavation By Gute Sicht Has Already Caused Irreparable Environmental Impacts In The Serra Do Curral Region

Although The Mining Company Is Being Sued To Suspend Its Excavation Operations In The Serra Do Curral Region, The Belo Horizonte Prosecutor’s Office Claims That The Activities Of Gute Sicht Have Already Caused Irreparable Damage In The Area.

Additionally, It States That The Mining Company Is Neglecting The Requirement For Prior Environmental Licensing And Currently Engages In A Clear Violation Of Article 24 Of The Federal Constitution.

The Prosecutor’s Office Continues To Point Out The Constitutional Violation By Gute Sicht And Stated In A Note: “To The Extent That The Provision Of The State Law Violates The Principles Of Prevention, Precaution, And Proportionality In The Sense Of Insufficient Protection. This Is Because The Removal Of The Requirement For Prior Environmental Licensing As An Indispensable Condition For The Performance Of Potentially Harmful Activities To The Environment Undermines The Constitutional Protection Of An Ecologically Balanced Environment.”

Finally, The Mining Company Gute Sicht Claims That It Does Not Conduct Any Operations Without Government Authorization And Has Provided All Necessary Clarifications Regarding Its Excavation Activities In The Serra Do Curral. Now, The Belo Horizonte Prosecutor’s Office Is Taking Action To Seek The Necessary Measures To Prevent The Environmental Impacts Of The Mining Company From Continuing In The Region.
