Volonaut Caused a Stir by Launching Its Star Wars-Inspired Flying Bike. The Reveal Sparks Fans’ Imagination and Challenges Technological Limits.
On May 4th, known worldwide as “Star Wars Day,” a European startup called Volonaut released a video that made the internet buzz.
The scene features a flying bike, called Airbike, with a design that directly references the iconic speeder bikes from Star Wars.
A person dressed in a scout trooper costume, one of the franchise’s characters, pilots the vehicle as it flies through the forest, creating the illusion that we are finally living in the future long imagined in the space adventures of the saga created by George Lucas.

A rare storm transformed part of the Gulf into an unlikely scene of hail, extreme rain, and tornado risk in the middle of the desert, with volumes that exceeded the annual average in a single day.
With a futuristic look, the Airbike promises to captivate sci-fi fans and lovers of those anti-gravity vehicles we have seen so much in movies and games.
However, is this project truly revolutionary, or are we faced with yet another marketing stunt or fake news?
Initial online reactions suggest that the video was met with skepticism, with various comments questioning the authenticity of the feat.

The Launch of the Airbike and Its Relation to Star Wars Day
The announcement of the Airbike did not happen by chance.
April 30th marked the official launch of the product, right in the week of Star Wars Day, celebrated every May 4th.
The date, when pronounced in English (“May the 4th”), sounds like the famous phrase from the saga: “May the Force be with you“, which translates to “Que a Força esteja com você,” one of the most iconic and repeated lines throughout the series.
However, what seemed like mere date coincidence soon transformed into a major marketing event.
Volonaut knew how to generate buzz, leveraging the wave of excitement generated by the Star Wars franchise, and seized the opportunity to launch the Airbike, a vehicle that has a design heavily inspired by the flying bikes seen in the chase scenes of Episode VI, The Return of the Jedi.
In the film, the speeder bikes are agile, lightweight, and ideal for the rugged terrain of the forests of Endor.
The Airbike, similarly, appears ready to explore forests, but with a modern and futuristic twist.

What Makes the Airbike Stand Out?
According to Volonaut, the Airbike is a true innovation in the field of mobility.
The vehicle is described as extremely lightweight, being seven times lighter than a conventional motorcycle, which, at first glance, is an impressive promise.
The vehicle’s structure is built with carbon fiber, a high-strength material, and its parts are produced by 3D printers, showcasing the cutting-edge technology employed in its design.
The speed of the flying bike is another noteworthy point.
According to the company, the Airbike can reach speeds of up to 200 km/h.
Additionally, it does not have visible propellers, which increases observers’ curiosity.
According to Volonaut, the vehicle features jet propulsion, capable of performing vertical take-offs and landings, quite similar to those made by vertical take-off and landing aircraft, like the Harrier, from the U.S. Air Force.
However, it is important to note that the video released by the company does not feature the actual sound of the flying bike.
Star Wars sound effects were overlaid onto the video to give it a more impressive and cinematic touch, but it is possible to perceive that the sounds of the engines and the jet propulsion are not real.
This raises questions about the authenticity of some aspects presented in the video.

Challenges and Questions About the Airbike
Despite the initial impact, some technical questions about the Airbike have not yet been fully clarified.
For example, the Volonaut website states that the flying bike is seven times lighter than a traditional motorcycle, but when compared to typical motorcycle models like the Yamaha R3 or the Honda Goldwing, the average weight of a motorcycle is around 221.4 kg.
Considering this average, seven times lighter than that would result in something weighing only 31.6 kg, which seems physically impossible for a vehicle capable of reaching 200 km/h.
Another point that generated discussions was the jet propulsion.
In the video frames, it is possible to observe a blast of air below the vehicle, suggesting that it may be using some type of microturbine.
Could the Airbike be powered by a microturbine that burns fuel, like Jet-A?
Would the vehicle have the autonomy to fly for extended periods?
These questions have yet to be answered satisfactorily by Volonaut.

The Inspiration from Jetson One and the Concept of Personal Aerial Vehicles
It is interesting to note that the Airbike is not the only personal aerial vehicle project that has emerged in recent years.
Volonaut was founded by Tomasz Patan, who is also the co-founder of Jetson, the company responsible for developing Jetson One, another personal aerial vehicle that promises to “revolutionize” mobility.
The Jetson One had already garnered a lot of attention when it was presented, but, like the Airbike, many question whether these vehicles are truly viable for the general public or if they are just beginning to explore a new frontier in the field of urban mobility.
Volonaut has not addressed some crucial questions raised by specialized sites like New Atlas, which reached out for more details about the functioning and flight duration of the Airbike.
However, the answers have not been provided, leaving a mystery about the true functioning of the flying bike.
Planets with Two Suns: A Closer Reality?
Staying in the Star Wars universe, the concept of planets with two suns is also trending in current science.
Recently, Olhar Digital reported the discovery of the planet 2M1510 (AB) b, which orbits not one, but two brown dwarfs at the same time, at an angle of 90 degrees.
This planet has a motion perpendicular to that of the stars, making it a polar planet.
This find becomes special because, unlike the known “Tatooine” planets, where the stars move in the same plane, 2M1510 (AB) b follows a unique path never before observed.
Planets in binary systems are already known, and some have been nicknamed “Tatooine worlds,” in reference to the planet from Star Wars, where we see two suns in the sky.
The new discovery raises questions for scientists about what it would be like to live on a planet with two suns.
Would life be possible in an environment with such heat? What would the climate be like? And at night, would there be total darkness?

The Future or Just Another Science Fiction Dream?
In the near future, will we really see flying bikes like the Airbike invading our streets?
Or are we just witnessing yet another marketing hoax aiming to generate publicity in the Star Wars universe?
It is clear that technology is advancing at a rapid pace, but there still seem to be many mysteries to be solved before we can see vehicles like the Airbike in the skies.
Are we on the verge of a mobility revolution, or will the Airbike just be another technological fantasy?
