Electric Motor Dark Matter Weighs Only 39 Kg, Delivers 800 Hp of Power and Debuts in the Hypercar Gemera with 2,300 Hp.

The Swedish company Koenigsegg has introduced to the world the Dark Matter, an electric motor that breaks paradigms in the hypercar sector.

Weighing only 39 kg and delivering an impressive 800 horsepower (600 kW), this project challenges the limits of engineering.

Installed in the Koenigsegg Gemera, the new motor combines performance, lightness, and technological innovation in a groundbreaking package, paving the way for advancements that may transcend the world of supercars.

Innovative Architecture

While most electric vehicles use radial flow motors, Koenigsegg has bet on a configuration called Raxial Flux.

This hybrid architecture combines the benefits of axial and radial systems, elevating power density and thermal efficiency.

The result is a more compact, stable, and efficient motor that makes the most of every gram and cubic centimeter of its structure.

This innovative concept not only improves performance in hypercars but also shows promise for other sectors.

Aerospace applications and lightweight electric vehicles, such as high-performance motorcycles, are already starting to adopt similar technologies, reinforcing the scalability of this type of solution.

Hexaphase Technology

Another notable feature of the Dark Matter is its hexaphase feeding. Instead of the traditional three phases, this motor operates with six, meaning more frequent and better-distributed electrical impulses.

This configuration reduces vibrations, provides greater smoothness at low speeds, and increases energy efficiency by reducing the electrical current needed.

In practice, this translates to greater stability and less heat generation, allowing for the use of lighter and more compact components.

The direct effect is a more precise power control and a smoother driving experience, without compromising the brutal torque delivery that characterizes the motor.

Power and Ultralight Design

With 1,250 Nm of torque and a maximum rotation of 8,500 rpm, the Dark Matter stands out not only for its performance but also for its intelligent construction.

To achieve this result, Koenigsegg replaced traditional materials with carbon fiber in key parts, such as the stator and rotor.

This intensive use of advanced composites has allowed weight to be reduced to an incredible 39 kg, making it lighter than many electric bicycles available on the market.

Its dimensions of 135.5 × 381.5 × 383.3 mm make the motor a surprisingly compact component, comparable in size to a robot vacuum cleaner.

This feature simplifies integration into different types of vehicles, expanding application possibilities.

The Gemera as a Showcase

The Koenigsegg Gemera is the first model to receive the Dark Matter. Produced since late 2024, the hypercar adopts a unique configuration: a V8 thermal engine with 1,500 horsepower combined with the 800-horsepower electric motor, reaching a total of 2,300 HP.

This monumental power is managed by the LSST (Light Speed Tourbillon) transmission, another example of Koenigsegg’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of conventional engineering.

Unlike the Regera, which used three electric motors, the Gemera proves that simplification can result in significant gains in power and efficiency, with just one compact and more powerful electric unit.

Potential Beyond Hypercars

Although born in the exclusive world of supercars, the Dark Matter can play an important role in other segments.

Its compact design, combined with efficiency and lightness, opens doors for applications in light commercial vehicles, urban motorcycles, small aviation, and even agricultural machinery, sectors where weight and energy savings are crucial factors.

Furthermore, adopting technologies such as hexaphase feeding and using composite materials reduces the carbon footprint in the manufacturing of electric motors. This characteristic points towards a more sustainable future, where innovation and efficiency go hand in hand.

A Milestone for Electrification

The Dark Matter is not just a high-performance motor but a symbol of how engineering can transform established concepts.

By challenging the conventional, Koenigsegg opens new doors for electrification in different areas, showing that it is possible to unite power, lightness, and efficiency in a single product.

The impact of this motor goes beyond the automotive industry: it signals a future where electrification will not just be an urban mobility issue, but also of extreme performance and multifunctional applications.

With the Dark Matter, Koenigsegg reinforces its reputation as a pioneer and sets a new standard for what is expected from electric motors in the 21st century.
