The Increase Was 10.5% in Freight Movements Nationwide Compared to May
According to the transportation insurance company AT&M, in June a total of R$ 532 billion was recorded in freight movements across the country, with a total increase of 10.5% compared to May (R$ 482 billion). A total of 64 million documents were registered in freight movements in June, an increase of 7% over the previous year, when 57 million orders were registered.

One of the founding partners of the company, Vagner Toledo, stated: “In addition to the values of freight moved within Brazil, the number of transports carried out for goods also saw an increase, signs that reflect the recovery of the economy, even if it is slow.”
In June, there was an 8.3% increase in the total freight moved compared to the same month the previous year, when a total of R$ 496 billion was recorded. Regarding the number of documents filed, there was a 74.4% increase compared to June of last year. This data is developed through invoices and electronic Transport Knowledge Documents (CT-es), which are reported daily at the moment of loading by the transporter. This database is composed of more than 26,000 carriers and shippers nationwide.

Various industry segments have resumed their activities, and retail has shown signs of slight improvement, Vagner said. Contributing to the country showing signs of recovery are the e-commerce, agribusiness, pharmaceuticals, hygiene and perfumery products, and supermarkets sectors.
According to Vagner, the COVID-19 pandemic brought behavioral changes related to consumption that will likely persist for some time. “Many sectors will need adaptations, as e-commerce is being incorporated more rapidly across various sectors, and in-person sales are now surrounded by new care and conduct protocols to ensure businesses remain viable. With this ‘new normal,’ the transportation market will need to identify and adapt new operational routines to minimize impacts on delivery timelines,” he concludes.
