What Is at Stake?
Starting this month, women aged 18 can enlist in the initial military service, but this opportunity has specific rules.
The measure, which was sanctioned by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva last August, is being implemented with the goal of increasing female participation in the Armed Forces.
The enlistment will be carried out until June 30 of this year, which provides a considerable time window, but requires attention to not miss the deadline.
Those interested may enroll in person at the Military Service Boards or through the official website of the Ministry of Defense.
The registration will be simple, but candidates need to pay attention to all the details to not miss any step of the process.
Who Can Enlist?
The voluntary enlistment is available only for women born in 2007, meaning those who will turn 18 in 2025.
But be careful, the final deadline for registration will be June 30, 2025. For women who wish to enlist, this is a crucial moment to act and secure a spot in the selection process.
Additionally, it is important to highlight that the vacancies are not unlimited. There are 1,500 vacancies planned for the year 2026, distributed across 29 municipalities, including 13 state capitals.
The distribution of the vacancies may create some uncertainty about availability in more remote cities, but for those living in major cities, the process may be more straightforward and faster.
Available Vacancies and Selection Challenges
The selection of candidates will be rigorous. It will be necessary to go through interviews, health inspections, and physical tests.
Physical training, as mentioned, will be equivalent to that of men but adapted to the specifics of the female body.
Candidates will need to prepare physically to ensure success in the selection process, which aims to guarantee that women are fit to face the challenges of military service.
To secure a spot, the candidate must demonstrate a high level of physical endurance, as well as commitment to the requirements of the Armed Forces. The selection process will not be easy, but it offers great rewards for those who pass.
How Does Female Military Service Work?
Once incorporated, the women in voluntary military service do not have guaranteed stability, and the initial service lasts for 12 months, with the possibility of extension for up to eight years.
During this time, women will receive remuneration, food assistance, maternity leave, and, most importantly, time counted towards retirement.
Additionally, during the active phase, they will have the opportunity to take professional training courses in various areas in which the Armed Forces operate.
This training can be a significant differentiator for women who wish to expand their career options, both inside and outside military institutions.
After completing the service, women will receive the Reservist Certificate and the Service Time Certificate, which can be useful in various professional situations.
But it is worth remembering that, if there is a need for mobilization, women may be called up just like men, according to the guidelines of the Military Service Law.
A Revolution in the Armed Forces
Currently, women represent only 10% of the Armed Forces, with about 37,000 military women in Brazil.
This inclusion of women in voluntary enlistment is an attempt to expand this participation, allowing more women to join the ranks of the Navy, Army, and Air Force.
