The Contract Between BAE Systems and the Brazilian Navy Provides for the Supply for the Next Five Years of Support and Maintenance Services for the ARTISAN Radar on the NAM Atlântico Ship, Aiming for More Safety and Operational Quality on the Vessel.
On last Tuesday, (07/26), the company BAE Systems announced the finalization of a contract with the Brazilian Navy to support its ARTISAN radar on the multi-purpose aircraft carrier (NAM) Atlântico of the Brazilian organization. Thus, support, maintenance, and equipment delivery services will be guaranteed on the ship for the next five years, benefiting the Brazilian Navy with more operational safety during the agreement period.
Brazilian Navy Signs Agreement with BAE Systems for Support and Maintenance Services for the ARTISAN Radar on the NAM Atlântico Ship for the Coming Years
The multinational service and equipment company of the aeronautical industry, BAE Systems, announced another of its major contracts in Brazilian territory, this time with the Brazilian Navy, for the provision of support and maintenance activities for its ARTISAN radar on the NAM Atlântico ship for the coming years. Additionally, the contract also provides for services to the BAE Systems DNA2 Combat System installed on the ship, to ensure operational availability for the flagship.
The agreement has a final term of five years and may be renewed by the Brazilian Navy if necessary, and it includes the delivery of support and preventive maintenance services for the ARTISAN radar to ensure greater safety for the NAM Atlântico ship. Furthermore, the agreement includes the provision of replacement parts, which will be manufactured by BAE Systems in the United Kingdom and installed in Brazil, as well as a help-desk service, which will be operated remotely from the United Kingdom, to assist the teams in Brazil.

BAE Systems will also be responsible for periodic technical visits to the Navy Arsenal of Rio de Janeiro, located in the Guanabara Bay area. The company’s radar is essential to the ship and provides the NAM Atlântico with surface and air surveillance and air traffic management for fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft, ensuring higher quality and safety in navigation.

The Director-General of Material of the Navy, Rear Admiral José Augusto Vieira da Cunha de Menezes, commented on the importance of the support agreement and stated, “The signing of the contract represents a significant step in ensuring the full availability of the Combat System and the ARTISAN radar of the Multi-purpose Aircraft Carrier ATLÂNTICO. It is an important commitment made by BAE Systems to the Brazilian Navy, not only in maintaining the operational capability of our flagship but also in transferring knowledge to our personnel.”
Laurie Ellis, Maritime Radar Manager at BAE Systems, highlighted that this is the perfect time for investments in safety and quality of navigation, which will be a great opportunity for radar operation in the United Kingdom and for the team to provide support, capability, and knowledge to the Brazilian Navy.
The Brazilian Navy is now finalizing the details of the 5-year agreement with BAE Systems and expects to begin to benefit from the services on the ARTISAN radar soon, thereby expanding operational safety in the activities performed by the NAM Atlântico ship.
