Multinational Oceaneering Signs Contract With AKOFS Offshore for ROV Services Supply on Aker Wayfarer Vessel

The Company Oceaneering International Has Just Signed a Partnership with AKOFS Offshore and Will Provide ROV Services on the Vessel Aker Wayfarer, Which Was Recently Chartered by Petrobras to Support Offshore Fuel Exploration Operations.

This Friday, (07/29), is increasingly beneficial for the business portfolio of Oceaneering International, which has just signed another contract in national territory, with the company AKOFS Offshore. Thus, the company will be responsible for providing research and remotely operated vehicle (ROV) services offshore Brazil, more precisely on the vessel Aker Wayfarer, which was chartered by Petrobras to support fuel explorations in national territory.

AKOFS Offshore Will Have ROV Services on the Vessel Aker Wayfarer in Brazil After Oceaneering Closes a Partnership with the Company

Oceaneering International continues to expand its presence in national territory and has just signed another contract to operate in the Brazilian offshore sector. This time with the vessel company AKOFS Offshore, to provide research and remotely operated vehicle (ROV) services offshore Brazil.

Thus, the vessel Aker Wayfarer will be operated with this technology by Oceaneering International, contributing to greater efficiency in offshore exploration in Brazilian fields. 

The contract between Oceaneering International and AKOFS Offshore also provides for the supply of two Millennium Plus class work ROVs, complete packages of specialized tools for each ROV. In addition to operators for the vessel Aker Wayfarer and equipment for conducting research in the segment. Furthermore, the companies announced that the contract will have a total duration of four years but may be extended if necessary. 

“We are very pleased to work with AKOFS to support Petrobras’ offshore activities. With AKOFS, this will be the first time we provide research services to Petrobras on an SESV [subsea equipment support vessel],” said Tiago Crespo, Director of Subsea Robotics Brazil and the Americas at Oceaneering.

This is another high-importance business for Oceaneering International in Brazil, as the company has been seeking to grow its business portfolio in national territory and stated that it has already secured other jobs on 11 offshore rigs in Brazil in the last 12 months.

The Vessel Aker Wayfarer, Which Will Be Operated with ROV Technology by the Multinational, Was Chartered by Petrobras for Services in the National Offshore Sector 

Prior to the contract signed with Oceaneering International for the provision of ROV operation services on the Aker Wayfarer, AKOFS Offshore established a partnership with Petrobras for the chartering of the vessel by the Brazilian state-owned company.

Thus, the ROV operation of the ship will be used to provide support services to subsea equipment in offshore fields in Brazil, which is expected to begin at the start of 2023, during the exploratory campaign of the state-owned company in the country’s oil and natural gas fields. 

The contract with the Brazilian state-owned company and AKOFS Offshore has a total estimated value of US$ 282 million and is expected to last for four years, with the possibility of extension at the end of this period. Additionally, besides the ROV partnership with Oceaneering International, AKOFS will also partner with Bravante for maritime services in the national offshore sector. 

The company AKOFS Offshore, located in Norway with its headquarters in Oslo, has as shareholders Akastor AS (50%), the Mitsui & Co. group (25%), and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (25%), and also operates the vessels AKOFS Skandi Santos and AKOFS Seafarer, in addition to the Aker Wayfarer. Now, with the agreements with Petrobras, Bravante, and Oceaneering International, the company seeks to expand its strength in the global market.
