Signing of Intent Protocol Between Four Municipalities Aims to Create Favorable Environment for Industrial Port Complex in Sergipe
The Government of Sergipe wants more, after the implementation of the Gas Terminal by Golar Power in Barra dos Coqueiros, municipality of Sergipe, this time the government intends to install an Industrial Port Complex in the state.
An Intent Protocol was signed last Thursday, August 18, at the Palace of Despatches, with the mayors of the municipalities of Barra dos Coqueiros, Airton Martins; Santo Amaro das Brotas, Dadau; Laranjeiras Paulo Hagenbegeck; and Maruim, Jefferson Santana.
The idea of the municipalities is to establish with the government of the state of Sergipe facilities aimed at attracting new investors for the creation of an Industrial Complex.
According to the state governor, Belivaldo Chagas, “We are already experiencing a new moment in Sergipe with the gas supply we will have from new discoveries by Petrobras and the thermoelectric plant that will start operation next January. The municipalities need to prepare for this new reality.”

The signing of this protocol of understanding comes at a good time for the State of Sergipe, as Petrobras and a consortium formed by major oil companies are eyeing the offer of nine exploratory blocks in deep waters in the Sergipe Basin.
Job Creation
The governor emphasized that the city halls of the four municipalities that signed the protocol will now have to forward a new legislation to the City Councils to ensure that a favorable investment environment is created.
Belivaldo added that the government will provide all the technical assistance that the municipalities need and declared, “We will create a conducive environment for development, the arrival of new industries, and job creation.”
According to the governor, the state of Sergipe has already received national and international entrepreneurs interested in setting up their businesses at the Port.
The mayor of Barra dos Coqueiros declared that his municipality is already ahead, as it already has an approved master plan and that job creation is a priority in the region: “With the arrival of these industries, we will generate employment and income. We are preparing the municipality to receive gas and, consequently, the companies that bring jobs and income,” he declared.
The mayor of Maruim, Jefferson Santana, also emphasized the importance of the venture for job generation in the region. “Today, the biggest problem we face is the unemployment of our youth,” he said.
The creation of the Industrial Port Complex in Sergipe, by the government, took into account the existing infrastructure potential in the state, its mineral wealth, and its privileged geographical location.
But certainly, the decisive factor for such an initiative was the large investments planned by Petrobras in oil and gas exploration in deep waters off the state’s coast.
With production expected to start in 2023, Petrobras will also invest in the implementation of 100 km of offshore gas pipelines and another 28 km on land, along with the installation of a Natural Gas Treatment Unit (UPGN) in the municipality of Japaratuba/SE.
