Petrobras And Consortium Formed By Major Oil Companies Eyeing Offering Of Nine Exploratory Blocks In Deep Waters Of The Sergipe Basin
After The Major Discovery Of Natural Gas In The Sergipe-Alagoas Basin, the first Cycle Of The Permanent Offering Of The Sergipe-Alagoas Basin is attracting the attention of the consortium formed by the oil companies ExxonMobil (50%), Enauta (30%) and Murphy Oil (20%) and Petrobras.
Nine exploratory blocks in deep waters of the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin will be offered, and the oil companies that already hold concessions in the region must submit bids, as they are already working to develop natural gas projects.
The companies already have license requests underway for 11 exploratory wells in areas from the 13th, 14th, and 15th ANP auction rounds. At that time, the consortium acquired the operation of the SEAL-M-351, SEAL-M-428, SEAL-M-430, SEAL-M-501, SEAL-M-503, and SEAL-M-573 blocks. The wells are offshore Sergipe, and the closest to the coast is 67 km from the city of Brejo Grande.

Attractive Basin
The market already expects Petrobras to enter the bidding, as it already has business in the region. Last week, the Brazilian state-owned company had already renewed the installation license for the FPSO Cidade de São Vicente in ultradeep waters of the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin, until January 15, 2020, gaining more time to work.
Petrobras’s plan is to conduct a Long Duration Test (LDT) by the end of the year to analyze the discovery of Farfan, in the area of the exploratory block SEAL-M-426.
Among the standout operations of the ExxonMobil, Queiroz Galvão E&P, and Murphy Oil consortium are the SEAL-M-501 and SEAL-503 blocks, won in the 14th ANP auction for R$ 67 million and R$ 42 million, respectively.
Another interesting deal for Petrobras in the region is a 128 km gas pipeline to transport the natural gas production from the Farfan, Barra, and Muriú reservoirs, in the area of exploratory blocks BM-SEAL-10 and BM- SEAL-11, in deep waters of the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin, which is in the environmental licensing phase.
The first oil FPSO to be installed in module 1 of the region is scheduled for October 2023, and it is also speculated in the market that Shell, which has expressed its clear intention to enter natural gas projects, will also invest in the Sergipe basin.
