The History Of This Factory, Which Started Almost Out Of Obligation In The 70s, Is The Story Of A Resounding Industrial Success. An Operation That Today, In 2025, Achieves An Impressive Production Rhythm And Prepares To Lead The Transition To Electric Motorcycles In The Country.

The Ban That Forced Honda To Build Its Factory In Brazil In 1976

In The Early 70s, Honda Was Already A Success In Brazil With Its Imported Motorcycles. The Company’s Original Plan Was To Build Its Factory In Sumaré (SP). However, A Shift In National Policy Changed The Entire Scenario. In 1975, The Brazilian Government Banned The Importation Of Vehicles, Forcing Honda To Make A Decision: Either Produce Locally Or Leave The Market.

The Company Decided To Stay, But The Location Changed. Instead Of São Paulo, Honda Chose Manaus To Benefit From The Tax Incentives Of The Free Trade Zone And Open The Largest Honda Motorcycle Industrial Hub. The Factory Was Inaugurated On November 4, 1976, And The First Motorcycle To Roll Off Its Production Line Was The Iconic CG 125, A Model Reinforced For Brazilian Conditions.

The Honda Complex Is The Epicenter Of The Two-Wheeled Industry In The Manaus Industrial Hub. The Factory Directly Employs Over 8,000 People And Is Responsible For Over 75% Of All Motorcycles Manufactured In The Region.

What Makes The Largest Honda Motorcycle Industrial Hub Outside Japan So Efficient Is Its Level Of Vertical Integration. About 90% Of The Parts Of A Honda Motorcycle Are Produced In-House, From The Chassis And Wheels To Engine Parts. This Gives The Company Total Control Over Quality And The Pace Of Production.
