In total there will be 5 solar energy generation plants, located in the interior of the state of Ceará, in the municipality of Abaiara

The city of Abaiara, in the Cariri region, will be the center of new investment in the production of electricity from sunlight. In all, R$ 728,6 million will be invested in the construction of the photovoltaic complex with five solar energy generation parks. The total power generation capacity is estimated at over 163 megawatts (MW). For the construction of the venture, it is expected to create 2.800 new jobs in the state of Ceará. Job creation

Most of the jobs will be generated during the construction phase of the five solar energy parks. It is estimated that 800 direct jobs and another 2 indirect jobs will be created during the project's implementation phase.

When in operation, the employability of the investment declines and it is projected that 10 workers will be allocated in direct jobs, and another 30 in indirect jobs, for the maintenance of solar energy parks in the state of Ceará.

More details about the solar energy complex

The project will consist of four similar solar plants called Lightsource Milagres I, II, III, IV with similar proportions and power generation capacity. In these, the estimated contribution is R$ 145,2 million for the implementation of each park.

Of the total spent on each solar energy park, BRL 77 million will be financed by the Northeast Development Fund (FDNE) and the rest by the private sector. The last plant to be installed, Lightsource Milagres Geração de Energia Ltda, will be the largest in the solar complex with an estimated investment of R$ 8 million, R$ 201,7 million of which sponsored by financing from the FNDE. The fund managed by the Northeast Development Superintendence (Sudene) will be responsible for financing R$ 111,7 million of the total to be invested in the Abaiara solar complex. The first release of funds for the development's construction will take place later this year, according to Sudene.

Use of renewable sources

In addition to the massive generation of jobs during implementation, the construction of the solar complex is intertwined with the strengthening of the renewable energy hub in Ceará. In addition, it intensifies prospects for the sale of energy for green hydrogen projects that are being implemented in the state.

The project will also provide “income generation through the leasing of land where it will be implemented”, as highlighted by Sudene's General Coordination of Development and Financing Funds. Solar energy projects have been strengthened by Sudene in an attempt to mitigate the energy crisis experienced by Brazil. In 2020, according to Sudene's balance sheet, around BRL 8 billion was released in financing for renewable energy projects throughout the Northeast region.

The company Solar Newen Bahia Energia signed a protocol of intentions with the Secretariat for Economic Development (SDE), for the construction of a new photovoltaic plant for the generation of solar energy, in municipality of Barreiras. For the execution of the project, the company estimates to invest R$ 1,080 billion. The venture will hire 990 workers for its construction and generate 135 jobs in the operation phase.

The secretary of economic development, Nelson Leal, said that in July of this year, the Chamber of Commercialization of Electric Energy recorded that Bahia was in second place among the states that generate solar energy in the country. And this protocol they signed is an indication that the sector only tends to grow in the state, he adds. According to the BahiadeValor website, projects for generating solar energy in Bahia have already generated 13 direct jobs, in the construction phase of those already in operation, and SDE estimates that another 47,4 direct jobs will be created in the phase construction for parks that are under construction or yet to be started.
