Technology allows savings of 65% in corrosion prevention of structures and promises to revolutionize the mining, chemical, cellulose, naval, plant, energy, infrastructure and wherever else there is steel!
The modern process used in the passivation service (an electrochemical protection system for films on metallic surfaces) creates a kind of protective web of electrons that eliminates the corrosion of steel structures, replacing the costly traditional methods of blasting, mechanical treatment and painting. In addition to the financial advantage, there are no environmental or accident risks.

Spending on combating corrosion can be reduced by around 65% thanks to Passivar Anode technology. Developed for any sector of the economy that has steel in its projects, units and installations, the technique used in the passivation service – as surface protection is called in the maintenance of steel structures – is capable of interrupting the continuous process of structural degradation at a much lower cost than the traditional method, which consists of blasting to remove residues – or mechanical treatment (St3) – and incessant painting.
Technology shields steel from the destructive action of corrosion
The technology offers portable equipment, easy to transport and powered by electricity, which emits electrical micropulses to create a protective film of electrons that shields the steel from the destructive action of corrosion. The solution is modular, which allows the protection of any footage needed, and can be monitored remotely.
“The device can be in Norway and observed in our control room to check whether it is operational or not. Used correctly, it can last from five to 10 years, without the need for shutdown or maintenance”, explains Francisco Muller, Director of Operations at Passivar, which has been operating in the segment for 42 years and is responsible for developing the new technology.
The method of commercialization of the Anodo Passivar solution is through a leasing service with a contract of 36 to 60 months and SLA (in English, Service Level Agreement) for the cost of implementation, service and replacement project.
Service is highly effective in mining, chemical, pulp, marine, power plant, energy, infrastructure and wherever else there is steel!
The passivation service serves all segments where there is steel and, inevitably, corrosion. The results are the same in mining, chemical industry, thermoelectric power, energy transmission, basic infrastructure, plastics, fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food, cellulose, wind towers and shipbuilding. Among Passivar's customers with equipment in operation are Petrobras, Suzano, Anglo American and Qualy Rações.
The return on investment of the Anodo Passivar solution lies in the reduction of conventional maintenance costs – such as hiring employees and scaffolding assemblers, logistics and the purchase of materials (PPE, inputs, paints, industrial water and scaffolding rental, for example) – and with the risk of accidents with personnel. In the environmental aspect, there is also a reduction in maintenance residues and risks related to legislation and inspection.
In the conventional process, the costs and hours of work invested are incessant. “A painting like this in a large installation can take a whole year. And when you reach the end, it's time to start all over again. It's an infinity of steel and corrosion”, comments Passivar director and production engineer Antônio Junior, based in the Campos Basin (RJ).
About Passivar
Passivar is a service company in systems of cathodic protection and anti-corrosion by passivation film, operating in the national and international market. With more than 45 years of experience in the sector, Passivar's technical staff is the strength and one of the company's differentials. The professionals are part of ABRACO – Brazilian Corrosion Association.
They have also been members of NACE International – National Association of Corrosion Engineers – for over 25 years. Combining an innovative vision with the expertise of professionals enabled the establishment of Passivar, legally constituted in 2020, based on the long history of its technical staff in providing services that use patented and state-of-the-art technologies.
