Klabin’s New Venture in Ceará Will Be Located in the Municipality of Horizonte and Will Consume Investments of R$ 500 Million.
The largest Brazilian paper and pulp company has officially reached an agreement with the Government of Ceará to establish a packaging industry in the municipality of Horizonte, in the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza. In May of this year, the company announced that 11,000 jobs will be generated in Paraná with its new industrial unit.
The site where the company will operate is the former Heineken factory, deactivated at the end of 2017. With the purchase, Klabin plans to expand its production, encompassing the growing market for fruit cultivation.

The success of the Northeast as a producer and exporter of fruits led Klabin to decide to install a factory for corrugated cardboard boxes in the region.
Brazil is among the five largest fruit producers in the world, with 700,000 tons exported annually from the São Francisco Valley, primarily grapes and mangoes.
Klabin’s packaging director, Douglas Dalmasi, stated that Ceará has always been on the company’s radar, as it ranks third in the country for the highest consumption of packaging.
The first phase of the investment, already approved by the board, has an estimated value of R$ 48 million, with the total investment in the project expected to reach R$ 500 million.
The installation is 90 kilometers from the Port of Pecém. Additionally, it has 35,000 square meters built on a 1 million square meter area available. The infrastructure can be expanded, and the start of activities can be immediate.
In the Northeast, Klabin operates in the city of Goiana (PE), producing recycled paper, and in Feira de Santana (BA), with a conversion unit. “Ceará represents a strategic position for Klabin to serve other markets in the Northeast and Northern regions of the country,” said Dalmasi.
According to the executive, since the factory in Horizonte is already ready and negotiations are concluded, the company should start production of packaging in December.
Initially, 20 to 30 jobs will be generated. Klabin is already in negotiations with the Ceará government to apply incentives offered by other states, facilitating investment in the location.
By the end of the year, Klabin may disclose the production capacity of the installation. Currently, the company has a total capacity to produce 750,000 tons of cardboard boxes per year, along with 175,000 tons of industrial bags annually.
