Nordic Country Is A Reference In Research And Development Of Green Technologies And Sees Strategic Potential For Energy Investments In Brazil, Says Embassy
This Wednesday (01), the second episode of the web series “Essences of Norway” will be launched, produced by the Norwegian Embassy in Brazil. The theme this time is about green technology: the energy transition, new sources of clean energy, in addition to the investments the Nordic country has made in Brazil focused on innovation and renewable sources.
Just like in the first episode, released on May 18, the second part of the web series “Essences of Norway” will be broadcast on the embassy’s social media. This time, presented by lawyer and digital content creator, Paula Borges.
“Green technology is a matter of utmost importance due to the magnitude and impact it has on society as a whole. In addition to preserving natural resources and renewable solutions for the environment, it poses fewer risks than nuclear energy, for example. Among numerous benefits, it enables the creation of new jobs and investments in disadvantaged areas,” reports Paula.

The web series is a campaign that also showcases the actions the Nordic country has taken in Brazil and Norway, such as the encouragement of the Norwegian government for oil and gas producing companies to operate with the lowest possible CO2 emissions and the use of electric vehicles. In 2021, 65% of the vehicles sold in the country were electric-powered cars, according to the Embassy.

Norwegian Investments In Brazil Hit Record During The Pandemic, But Renewables Still Represent Only 4%
Despite the reduction of economic activities in many sectors, Norwegian financial investments in Brazil exceeded US$ 7 billion during the pandemic.
The data was presented by the Norwegian Consulate in the report “Norwegian Investments In Brazil“. According to the document released in 2021, 71% of all the money was invested in the energy sector.
However, clean energy sources, specifically, still represent a low percentage of investments in the sector, at approximately 4%, also considering green technology.
Norway is considered one of the main oil-exporting countries on the planet, ranking 12th among global producers.
Norway states that there is a strong trend of increasing investments in clean energy in the coming years, as companies have already expressed interest in reducing their greenhouse gas emissions.
According to the Consulate’s report, in recent years, projects driven by innovations have doubled the number of Norwegian companies working with renewable sources in Brazil.
Technologies such as offshore wind energy, hydrogen, batteries, electric vehicles, and CCUS are examples of activities promoted by the Nordic country. International cooperation has contributed to this expansion.
According to the Norwegian Embassy, there is a trend of growth in the country’s investments in renewable energies in Brazil, as companies like Equinor, Scatec Solar, Hydro, Statkraft, and Aker Solutions are collaborating to reduce emissions and achieve climate goals.
Other Segments Where Norwegians Are Present In Brazil
Norwegian companies are also present in other segments in Brazil, such as agribusiness, chemistry, finance, IT, media, mining, as well as maritime and offshore. All these operations were responsible for 29,000 direct jobs and over 500,000 indirect jobs in 2020, according to the Norwegian Consulate.
“Norwegian companies operating here have a long-term commitment to Brazil and trust in its economy,” says the Consul General of Norway in Brazil, Marianne Fosland. According to her, “some of the largest Norwegian companies are present in Brazil, and many are leaders in the field of green technologies. They are cutting-edge energy companies that are striving to transition to clean sources in the best possible way. And they have great partners and resources in Brazil for that.”
