With a forecast of creating more than 11 thousand job opportunities, the new Heineken factory in MG is scheduled for mid-2025. All of its construction and operation will be supplied with renewable energy, aligning the factory with the environmental goals of one of the largest breweries in the world.
On last Wednesday (27), the governor of the State of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema, went to the city of Passos, in southern MG, to participate in the announcement of the construction and operation of the new Heineken factory. The new factory in MG will have an investment estimated at R$ 1.8 billion, and will generate around 350 direct jobs and more than 11 thousand indirect jobs. The Heineken factory will operate entirely with renewable energy.
New Heineken Factory Will Start Operations in Mid-2025

The 15th unit of the Heineken group in Brazil is expected to start operations in 2025. At the new manufacturing unit, in addition to Heineken, the Amstel pure malt brand will also be produced. It is estimated that its annual production capacity will be over 5 million hectoliters.
The Heineken factory will be the most sustainable brewery in the country, as it will be 100% supplied by renewable energy sources. Following the failed attempt to establish the factory in the city of Pedro Leopoldo, a metropolitan area of Belo Horizonte, the governor and his team decided to do everything possible to ensure that the Heineken factory remained in MG.

Understand How Passos Was Chosen to Be the Next City to Host a Heineken Factory
According to Heineken representatives, the choice of Passos was due to its water availability, as well as its socioeconomic development and logistical ease for supplying the entire state of MG and the Southeast region.
However, the initial idea was to establish the Heineken factory in Pedro Leopoldo, according to a plan made in late 2020. However, the land where the factory would be built is close to the area of the Lapa Vermelha cavities, where the oldest human fossil in the Americas was found. Out of respect, Heineken reconsidered any type of construction near the site. Consequently, a new city selection process was opened.
About 300 municipalities in MG registered, but only 3 were finalists, namely Uberaba, Uberlândia and Passos. After thoroughly analyzing each municipality, Heineken decided that Passos was the ideal city for the installation of its new manufacturing unit.
With significant advancement in public policies created by the Government of MG, the lives of those who generate jobs and income in the state have been simplified, even for entrepreneurs. In addition to attracting over R$ 211 billion in private investments to the state, the southern region of Minas was responsible for over R$ 6 billion, creating more than 19 thousand direct jobs in 93 projects across 15 municipalities in Minas. And not only Heineken, Passos also attracted an Ipiranga Agroindustrial plant to MG, with an estimated investment of around R$ 402 million, in addition to generating 200 direct jobs.

In 2017, Heineken acquired Brasil Kirin, becoming the second player in the Brazilian beer market, with approximately 20% of the market.
