New Regulation Makes Criteria For Commercialization Of Energy Equipment More Rigorous. According To The Commercial Manager Of UNICOBA, Inmetro Normative Will Increase Product Quality Levels And Benefit Consumers

The new regulation for solar energy equipment sold in Brazil recently published by Inmetro (National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology), which establishes new mandatory requirements for generation, conditioning, and storage of energy in all products in the national market, has significantly changed how the agency will carry out its oversight activities. This initiative makes the solar energy market more rigorous and benefits consumers and companies that already meet the criteria established by the ordinance 140/2022, published in the Official Gazette of the Union. The normative takes effect from May 2nd.

Main Highlights Of The New Inmetro Regulation

“The new ordinance is a significant victory for the entire solar energy segment and, especially, for the end consumer, who will have products overseen under rules from such an important agency as Inmetro. It was not clear which companies adhered to the technical norms, safety levels, durability, and other requirements”, highlighted Caio Lentini, Commercial Manager of UNICOBA.

Among the main highlights of the ordinance update are the visible presentation of the ENCE (National Energy Conservation Label) to consumers, the mandatory requirement for hybrid inverters connected to the grid, and the inclusion of on-grid inverters for hybrid batteries and lithium batteries.

Even knowing that solar energy is an intermittent source when supplemented by other matrices using batteries to connect to the power grid, prior to the publication of the ordinance, this system had no regulatory framework.

“Now, with the new ordinance, users will have safety in purchasing equipment that allows more than one energy source, including energy storage through hybrid or lithium batteries, for example. It is a significant advancement to bring us closer to increasing energy generation from renewable sources”, reinforced Caio.

Batteries With A Lifespan Of Up To 6,000 Charge And Discharge Cycles

In addition to the measure representing a significant advancement for the regulated sector and ensuring quality, the national solar energy system will now be more secure, as all companies operating in the national solar energy market will have to follow the regulations imposed by Inmetro, and energy distributors will have to approve installations with these equipment.

“The lithium iron phosphate batteries produced by UNICOBA have always been made to have a lifespan of up to 6,000 charge and discharge cycles and operate at temperatures of up to 60ºC. If the power grid experiences fluctuations, photovoltaic systems with batteries help stabilize the grid and maintain service to consumers. Now, all manufacturers operating in the country must also comply with the same requirement”, said Lentini.
