The Renovation of the Hilux Gained a New Parameter by Mirroring Solutions from the Tacoma, Leader in the Segment in the USA. Changes in Design and Cabin, Platform Differences, and the Expected Timeline for Brazil Enter the Radar.

In late 2025, Toyota presented the new generation of the Hilux, already launched in Southeast Asia and Europe, and expected to debut in Brazil later this year.

The medium pickup arrives with changes in design and cabin, with the main reference cited by Autoesporte being the Toyota Tacoma, sold in markets like the United States and Canada.

In the United States, the Tacoma led sales among medium pickups in 2025.

According to data attributed to MarkLines partners, the model registered 274,638 units sold and became the third most popular vehicle of Toyota in that market, surpassing the Corolla.

Although they are models aimed at different regions, the comparison arises because the Hilux began adopting style and internal organization solutions similar to those of the Tacoma.

The association, in the article on the AutoEsporte portal, was observed during the Detroit Auto Show, when the American pickup was analyzed closely.

What the Hilux Changed Inside and Out

In the body, the ninth generation of the Hilux adopts a more squared design, with straight and robust lines, following a language that is also present in the Tacoma.

Still, the point where the influence is described as clearest is in the cabin, according to the comparison made in the report.

On the inside, the new Hilux displays a set of screens with a multimedia center at an elevated position, horizontal air vents, and a bulkier steering wheel design.

The dashboard also gains straighter lines and visually marked areas, in line with the pattern seen in the Tacoma.

Having been presented later, the Hilux features a more recent cabin design within the brand’s portfolio.

Even with differences in finish and execution, the report highlights conceptual similarities in the organization of controls and the screen solutions.

The change draws attention because the interior distances itself from what is seen in the Hilux sold in Brazil since 2015.

In the original text, the assessment is that the current generation has fallen behind its rivals in modernity and equipment lists, despite commercial performance in the segment.

Platform Maintained and Differences in Relation to the Tacoma

The renovation of the Hilux, according to the investigation cited by the report, followed a strategy of preserving the technical base.

Toyota would have maintained the IMV platform and the overall structure of the cabin, including the shape of the doors, concentrating changes in the design of the front, rear, and dashboard.

The comparison made in the text mentions that the approach resembles the update applied by the Chevrolet S10, maintaining the structural base and focusing on visual and content changes.

The idea presented is to preserve already known components while simultaneously updating points perceived by the public in daily use.

In the case of the Tacoma, the report states that the base is different.

The American pickup uses the TNGA-F platform, which also serves as the basis for the Tundra, which limits how far the similarities between Tacoma and Hilux can go.

Electrification Presented in Asia and What Should Arrive in Brazil

In Asia, the new Hilux debuted with electric, mild hybrid, and hydrogen fuel cell options, according to the original text.

For Brazil, the report states that Toyota is expected to bet on the mild hybrid version with a 48-Volt system by the end of 2026, maintaining the commitment to offer at least one flex hybrid version in all its vehicles in the country.

The article also states that the Hilux G9 should be sold with two engine options.

One would be the current 2.8 turbodiesel engine with 204 hp, already known from the pickup currently sold in Brazil.

The second option mentioned is the 48-Volt mild hybrid variant, which would have support from a 16 hp electric motor and a 0.2 kWh lithium-ion battery.

The text does not indicate, however, additional performance details beyond these numbers.

Still, according to the report, the manufacturer would begin the homologation of the ninth generation at the beginning of this year.

The process, including emission and noise tests, is described as rigorous and expected to take at least six or seven months.

Tacoma in Argentina and Limits for a Possible Arrival in Brazil

According to the AutoEsporte portal, since mid-last year, units of the Toyota Tacoma have been seen circulating near the Zárate factory in Argentina.

The interpretation presented is that the brand could be testing a full hybrid set in the country.

Despite the report, it states there is no information that the Tacoma will be sold in Brazil.

The argument presented is that the Hilux occupies a similar range in the local portfolio, which would reduce space for a second medium pickup with a similar proposition.

Without a public confirmation from Toyota about commercial plans for the Tacoma in the region, the article treats the topic as an observation of tests and a likely scenario, without formal announcement.

When the New Hilux Should Debut in the Brazilian Market

After the debut of the new Hilux in Asia, the text states that speculation increased about the timing of its arrival in Brazil, considering that the launch would depend on investments to update production in Zárate.

The report attributes to consulted sources the projection that the mild hybrid Hilux will be launched in the last quarter of 2026, with the possibility of extending to early the following year.

This estimate, according to the text itself, would confirm information published back in 2023, when the new generation was far from being launched.

With the ninth generation, the Hilux tends to combine the already known technical base with a redesigned interior and electrification options in some markets.

In Brazil, the text points to the maintenance of the turbodiesel engine and the introduction of the mild hybrid system as the main mechanical news.
