Agreement Between Nuclep and Eletronuclear Was Signed Last Tuesday (Day 20) to Negotiate the Manufacturing and Delivery of Equipment for the Construction of the Nuclear Power Plant Angra 3

On the morning of this Friday (Day 20), a new and important agreement was signed within the Brazilian nuclear market. This is because Nuclep signed a letter of intent for a contract that pertains to the manufacturing and delivery of new heat exchangers for Eletronuclear. These equipment will be used at the nuclear power plant Angra 3, which is expected to resume construction in August. Additionally, the contract itself, responsible for legitimizing the business, is set to be signed next month.
The signing ceremony for the letter took place at Nuclep’s headquarters in Itaguaí (RJ). The event included the Governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro, the President of Nuclep, Rear Admiral Carlos Seixas, the President of Eletronuclear, Leonam Guimarães, the President of the Brazilian Association for the Development of Nuclear Activities (ABDAN), Celso Cunha, and the lawmaker Júlio Lopes. The total value of the contract to be signed between the two companies amounts to over R$ 400 million and demonstrates the importance of developing this energy segment for the country.
During the ceremony, the fluminense governor also heard some of the demands from the nuclear sector as a whole. The President of Nuclep, for instance, argued that the company should have the right to a discount on the ICMS tax, so that its competitiveness can be enhanced. Meanwhile, the President of ABDAN informed Castro of the importance of fighting for the establishment of the fourth nuclear power plant in Brazil, as outlined in the 2031 Ten-Year Energy Plan, to be established in the state of Rio.
Celso Cunha told the media that he had the opportunity to speak with the governor, asking him to fight for the construction of the fourth Brazilian nuclear power plant to take place in the state of Rio de Janeiro. According to him, another request made to Cláudio Castro was for him to participate in efforts to support the productive chain of nuclear activities and the creation of a nuclear cluster in the Southeast region.
The initiative for the signing to take place at Nuclep’s factory came from Federal Deputy Júlio Lopes, who has always shown interest and activity in national issues related to the Brazilian energy matrix. For him, Rio is the capital of the nuclear sector in Brazil, as it is where the plants, companies, and specialized labor of the country are located. Lopes also stated that Nuclep is the only Brazilian company that manufactures what no one else can, constituting a strategic asset for the country.

Eletronuclear Signs Contract and Resumes Construction of the Nuclear Power Plant Angra 3 in Rio de Janeiro

The nuclear power plant Angra 3 that Eletronuclear will complete is 65% finished and will require an additional R$ 17 billion to be fully completed.
After the Eletrobras Board of Directors provided approval for the construction of the nuclear power plant Angra 3 to be completed, the subsidiary Eletronuclear signed the contract with the consortium led by the construction company Ferreira Guedes, which also includes Matricial and ADtranz, to advance the project.
The consortium that will carry out the works at Angra 3 won the bid for the Critical Path Acceleration Plan works, which will require approximately R$ 300 million and involves building the reactor building and other safety buildings.
