The Delivery of the First Phase of a Project That Promises to Transform Air Transportation on the Coast of São Paulo Is the First Step Toward a Revolution in the Region’s Connectivity, with Hope for New Opportunities.

The first phase of the construction of the new airport in Guarujá, São Paulo’s coast, was completed and delivered last Monday (14).

This is one of the most anticipated projects by the local population, and the delivery of the runway renovation marks an important step in modernizing the region’s airport infrastructure.

With an investment of R$ 20.9 million, from the Federal Government through the Novo PAC (Growth Acceleration Program), the event was attended by the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, and the Mayor of Guarujá, Farid Mad.

During the ceremony, Minister Silvio Costa Filho announced that the expectation is that, in the coming days, the airport will already be able to receive executive flights.

The minister also indicated that regular operations for commercial aviation, by airlines, should begin next year.

This forecast brings great expectations for the local population, which is eagerly awaiting the start of the airport’s commercial operations, seen as an important engine for economic development in the region.

The Mayor of Guarujá, Farid Mad, preferred not to specify an exact date for the start of commercial operations, but confirmed that the runway will be available for private flights, provided there is proper authorization from the Aeronautics and a prior request from the company responsible for the aircraft.

This flexibility, already foreseen since the beginning of the work, is an important step to ensure that the airport can meet various aviation demands until commercial operations are authorized.

The Next Phase of the Project

The construction of the new airport is divided into several phases, and the completion of the runway renovation is just the beginning.

According to Farid Mad, the next phase includes the installation of the passenger terminal, which will be built with an initial budget of R$ 4 million.

The passenger terminal will be installed near the entrance of the Guarujá Air Base, and its total constructed area will be approximately 495.28 m², with 286.41 m² of usable area.

The terminal project follows a modular model and will be a key component for the start of the airport’s commercial operations.

One of the requirements for the airport to start operating fully is the completion of an aerial study, as part of the guidelines of Infraero (Brazilian Airport Infrastructure Company), which will analyze the feasibility of the site’s operation.

Only after this analysis will the airport be able to obtain final authorization for commercial operation.

The expectation of the São Paulo government is that the homologation process will be completed and that regular operations can start in early 2026.

Designed to accommodate category 2C aircraft (such as the ATR 72), the new airport in Guarujá will feature a runway that is 1,390 meters long and 45 meters wide.

This type of aircraft is used for regional flights and is ideal for meeting the initial demand of the airport, especially concerning executive transport and small airlines.

Economic and Touristic Impact

The project represents a milestone for the economic development of the city and the metropolitan region of Santos.

The infrastructure of the new airport promises to increase connectivity and attract tourists, businesses, and investments.

With its proximity to major tourist destinations on the São Paulo coast and growing infrastructure, the new airport has the potential to boost tourism, commerce, and other essential economic sectors in the region.

According to the communication office of the São Paulo government, the new airport will have a positive impact on tourism and local businesses, as well as create new possibilities for regional air transportation, reducing the dependence on large airports like São Paulo’s.

The modular model of the passenger terminal also aims to provide agile and efficient service, suited to the initial market demand, which is expected to grow as the airport establishes itself as a transportation hub.

Tribute to the “Father of Aircraft Maintenance”

The runway delivery ceremony was also marked by a symbolic moment: Minister Silvio Costa Filho and Mayor Farid Mad honored Professor José Gonçalves dos Santos, known as the “Father of Aircraft Maintenance”, by naming the runway “Professor Gonçalves Airport”.

José Gonçalves, who trained more than a thousand students in the aviation field, is a respected and admired figure in Brazil, serving as a reference for many professionals in the area.

The tribute, according to Minister Costa Filho, is a way to recognize the professor’s legacy, who has always contributed to the training of young professionals in the field of aviation.

“The tribute to Professor Gonçalves is a fitting recognition of a lifetime dedicated to training aviation professionals. He is an example of dedication and a true asset to the sector,” the minister emphasized during the event.

The initiative also aims to reinforce the importance of education and professional qualification, aspects that are essential for the growth and modernization of the Brazilian aviation sector.

The Future of the Airport

The airport project in Guarujá is an example of how partnerships between federal, state, and municipal governments can result in works that benefit not only local citizens but also tourists and businesses that visit or operate in the region.

The infrastructure created aims not only to facilitate air transportation but also to promote sustainable development, with a focus on creating new jobs and business opportunities.

In summary, the Guarujá airport presents itself as a modern and well-planned solution for the growth of the São Paulo coast’s infrastructure, with the delivery of the first phase marking the beginning of a new era for the city and its population.

The expectation of seeing the airport in regular operation by 2026 brings hope and confidence to the local population, which views the project as a symbol of development and progress for the future.
