Master’s in Biology, Free Course Recognized by the MEC. Enrollment Open to Prepare for One of the Most Desired Courses in Brazil.
The Ministry of Education (MEC) has just opened enrollment for the National Access Exam for PROFBIO 2026, the Professional Master’s in Biology Teaching in National Network. The notice No. 2083/2025, published by UFMG, offers 584 free spots distributed among 28 federal and state universities in all regions of the country. Recognized by the MEC and supported by CAPES, the course is aimed exclusively at public school teachers who work in High School or in the final years of Elementary School.
Free Training for Biology Teachers
The Professional Master’s course – PROFBIO, from the MEC, is considered one of the main initiatives to value teaching staff in Brazil. The free course aims to train Biology teachers with updated content, innovative methodologies, and practices that can be applied directly in the classroom.
The free course offered by the MEC is semi-presential, with in-person classes only one day a week and online complementary activities, such as forums, seminars, and guided research. This structure is designed to allow teachers to continue working throughout the master’s program.

Participating Federal and State Universities and Offer Locations
Among the partner institutions offering the MEC’s free course are some of the most prestigious in the country, such as UFMG, UFRJ, UnB, UFPR, UFPA, UFSC, UNICAMP, UFPE, UFES, UERJ, UFAM, UFAL, UECE, UFCA, and UESPI.
The in-person classes will take place at the Biology campuses or institutes of each university, always concentrated on just one day a week, which facilitates the routine of teachers in the classroom.
How the Selection for the MEC’s Professional Master’s Course Will Work
The selection process for the MEC course will be conducted through a remote objective test, which is eliminatory and classificatory.
The exam will include multiple-choice questions based on the content of the Enade for Biology (Licentiate), covering topics such as genetics, zoology, ecology, evolution, biochemistry, botany, environmental education, and didactics.
The MEC PROFBIO notice also guarantees affirmative actions, with spots reserved for black candidates, indigenous people, quilombolas, people with disabilities, refugees, and others in situations of social vulnerability.
Who Can Enroll in the MEC Master’s Course
To participate, it is necessary to:
- Be a permanent or contracted teacher in the public education system;
- Teach Biology or Science in High School or in the final years of Elementary School;
- Hold a higher education degree in Biological Sciences, Biology, or Sciences with a concentration in Biology, registered with the MEC;
- Prove teaching practice during the course;
- Present, by the 12th month of enrollment, a certificate of proficiency in English, French, or Spanish.
As the exam will be online, the candidate needs to have a computer with Windows 10 or MacOS X 10.13 or higher, 4GB of RAM (8GB recommended), a camera, a microphone, and stable internet.
Exam Structure
The content follows the Enade program, covering everything from animal morphophysiology, microbiology, biotechnology, and biostatistics to curriculum, didactics, and bioethics. According to CAPES, the idea is to evaluate not only theoretical knowledge but also the ability to apply this knowledge in practical teaching situations.

- September 1-30, 2025 – Enrollment period (exemption until September 4)
- September 16 – Results of exemption requests
- October 7 – Publication of approved enrollments
- October 9 – Sending of platform tutorial and access credentials
- October 19 – Remote exam
- October 20 – Preliminary answers
- November 3 – Final answers
- November 11 – Preliminary results
- November 28 – Final results
Enrollment must be done exclusively through the Copeve/UFMG page (www.ufmg.br/copeve). The fee is R$ 150, with the possibility of exemption for those registered in CadÚnico. Those approved will receive a Master’s degree in Biology Teaching, valid nationwide.
