Leaked Images Show New HB20: Hatch Will Expand in All Directions, Will Be One of the Most Fuel-Efficient Cars in Brazil, and Will Give Rise to a Mini SUV Made in SP

The best-selling car from Hyundai in Brazil has just shown signs of being reborn with an ambitious and futuristic proposal. The new generation of the HB20, expected to debut in 2026, was spotted for the first time undergoing tests in South Korea, and the images indicate that the new Hyundai car will leave behind any trace of the current design.

With lines inspired by models such as the Ioniq 9, Nexo, and Palisade, the automaker is preparing a visual and structural revolution that also includes an SUV version derived from the HB20, ready to face rivals like the Fiat Pulse, Volkswagen Tera, and Renault Kardian.

Goodbye to the Current Style: New HB20 Will Have a 100% New Design

According to information released by the Kindel Auto profile, which revealed the first sightings of the new HB20, the compact hatch will be developed from scratch, with no visual ties to the current generation. Hyundai will apply its new global design language to the model, marked by straight lines, interconnected LED headlights, and a wedge-shaped sharp hood.

The front of the car has a clear inspiration from the Ioniq 9, with more vertical pillars, a flat roof, and an ascending side waistline — which gives the model an aggressive and contemporary visual identity. At the rear, the interconnected taillights complement the futuristic look. This style is the same that the Autoesporte magazine had anticipated since September 2024, stating that the new generation of the HB20 would be larger, more refined, and designed to compete in higher category spaces.

Larger Dimensions for More Comfort

With the redesign, the new HB20 is expected to grow in all directions. The estimate is that the length will reach 4.10 meters, while the wheelbase is expected to jump from 2.53 m to 2.58 m. This places the hatch in a similar level to competitors like the Volkswagen Polo (2.57 m) and the Chevrolet Onix (2.55 m), promising more internal space, especially in the rear seat.

The width of the new model is expected to reach 1.80 meters, and the height will be around 1.50 meters. The trunk, currently with a capacity of 300 liters, should grow to about 330 liters, significantly improving the car’s usability for families and long trips.

Confirmed Engines and Electrification on the Radar

Under the hood, Hyundai will maintain the current engine line: the reliable 1.0 aspirated flex for the entry-level versions and the efficient 1.0 turbo flex for the more complete versions. The transmissions will also follow the already known standard: manual five-speed for the aspirated engine and six-speed automatic for the turbo.

However, the most promising changes may lie in electrification. Sources from the specialized press, such as Motor1 Brasil, indicate that the new generation of the HB20 may feature hybrid versions, either in the form of mild hybrid systems or full hybrids, which would align the model with the sustainable trends of the global automotive market.

New HB20 Promises to Be One of the Most Fuel-Efficient Cars in Brazil

The new Hyundai HB20 2026 maintains the efficiency that established the model among the best-selling cars in the country, with very competitive fuel consumption averages for the segment. In the version with the 1.0 aspirated engine, the hatch registers up to 13.4 km/l in the city and 15.4 km/l on the highway when fueled with gasoline, while with ethanol the numbers drop to 9.7 km/l and 10.9 km/l, respectively.

The configuration equipped with the 1.0 turbo engine delivers 13.0 km/l in the city and 15.2 km/l on the highway with gasoline, and 9.2 km/l and 10.7 km/l with ethanol. The data follows the updated Proconve L8 regulations, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to energy efficiency and new environmental demands in Brazil.

Price of the New HB20

Currently, Hyundai has not yet released the official prices for the new generation of the Hyundai HB20 2026, which was recently spotted in tests in South Korea and is expected to launch in Brazil in mid-2026. This model will be completely revamped, with a futuristic design and expanded dimensions, as discussed previously.

In the meantime, the current line of HB20 2026, which is already available at Brazilian dealerships, has the following suggested prices:

  • HB20 Comfort 1.0 aspiration MT: R$ 90.790
  • HB20 Limited 1.0 aspiration MT: R$ 91.990

These values refer to the current generation of the HB20. With the arrival of the new generation in 2026, a slight price adjustment is expected, especially considering the improvements in design, technology, and interior space. For updated information on available prices and versions, it is recommended to check the official Hyundai website or visit an authorized dealership in your area.

Goodbye Volkswagen T-Cross and the Fiat Pulse! New Hyundai HB20 Car Will Give Rise to an Unprecedented Mini SUV

The big surprise of this new generation, however, goes beyond the hatch: the platform of the new Hyundai car will give rise to an unprecedented compact SUV, positioned below the Creta and ready to face the growing market of urban utilities. The proposal follows the success of models like the Kona abroad, with a sporty design, bold style, and spacious interior.

Although the commercial name has not yet been confirmed, rumors point to Elexio or Leonis as possible names for the international market. In Brazil, the project already has a certain destination: it will be produced in the Piracicaba (SP) factory, taking the place left by the HB20S sedan, which will be discontinued.

The new mini SUV from Hyundai is expected to be approximately 4.20 meters long and have a trunk volume estimated at 415 liters — measurements that place it in a strategic position against rivals like the Volkswagen T-Cross and the Fiat Pulse. The mechanical set will consist of a 1.0 turbo engine and automatic transmission, a formula that has already proven effective for the Brazilian audience.

Launch in 2026: High Expectations

Both the new HB20 and its derived SUV are expected to be officially presented in the second half of 2026, according to market projections. Hyundai has not yet released official dates or the pre-sale schedule, but the sightings in testing already signal that development is in an advanced stage.

The expectation is that the automaker will take advantage of the launch to reposition its range of compacts, offering more technology, safety, and sophistication, without giving up the cost-benefit that made the HB20 a sales champion since its debut in 2012.
