New Electric Motor From ZF Promises to Completely Change the E-Bike Market. New Propulsion System Delivers 600 W of Power and 90 Nm of Torque, check out other details!
An electric bicycle typically weighs significantly more than a traditional model. While standard bicycles weigh between 8 and 14 kilograms on average, electric bikes can weigh around 20 kilograms. The main reason for this is the electric motor. To address this issue, the automotive technology company ZF has developed a new motor for electric bicycles, which is much lighter and more compact than traditional models.
New Motor for Electric Bicycle Delivers 600W of Power
Despite its reduced size, power and torque remain. The innovation comes from the company’s micromobility division and, according to New Atlas, is one of the most compact and discreet electric motors on the cycling market, the size of a soda can.
The new electric bicycle motor from ZF has been named CentriX and was presented at the Eurobike 2024 event, which took place last week in Frankfurt, Germany.

This is a complete electric drive system that includes a motor, control hardware, application, cloud connectivity, and battery. The new motor for electric bicycles boasts 48 V, 600 W of power, and 90 Nm of torque (almost double that of the compact TQ HPR50 motor, which has become famous for its lightweight design).
The motor measures 12 x 9 centimeters, just slightly larger than a soda can. It weighs 2.5 kg and will debut on the electric bicycle from the German company Raymon.
New Electric Motor From ZF Features Multiple Connections and Cutting-Edge Technology
Due to its lightness, the new electric propeller is recommended for mountain bike riders, promising safe rides on unstable and steep terrains. There is also a version of the new electric bicycle motor with lower torque and power (450 W and 75 Nm) for those who wish to ride in the city.
The company also promises a quick battery removal design to facilitate charging and a display with motorization information. The package includes connectors, a smartphone application, Bluetooth connectivity, and navigation and route functions.
The presentation of the new electric bicycle motor at Eurobike 2024 included a demonstration on the e-bike from the German company Raymon, called the e-MTB Tarok, as mentioned above. The expectation is that it will be available for sale starting early 2025.
Conversion Kits for Electric Bicycles Are Also Becoming Popular
Although various initiatives to produce electric bicycles are gaining popularity, acquiring such a vehicle is still a bit expensive. To address this issue, an innovative solution has emerged: a new affordable conversion kit that promises to transform any bicycle into an electric one, making sustainable mobility more accessible for everyone.
The new conversion kit was launched by the urban mobility company CLIP. The kit that transforms a regular bicycle into an electric one is not exactly a novelty, as there are other models available for purchase on the market; however, this affordable conversion kit promises to function in a simpler way.
The Clip is a portable and removable device powered by friction. Its electric motor housed in the casing has rollers that make contact with the front tire, propelling the vehicle and transforming a regular bicycle into an electric one. The friction drive offers speeds of up to 24 km/h depending on the weight of the bicycle.
According to the manufacturer, the conversion kit is compatible with almost any bicycle with 26 to 28-inch tires. According to the manufacturer itself, the user does not need any additional tools to transform their regular bike into an electric one.
