New Record Presented By The Brazilian Oil Giant Is A Result Of Efforts To Secure The Supply Of Natural Gas During This Period Of High Demand
Petrobras announced yesterday (07/16) in a relevant fact that it reached a historic record in the supply of regasified liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the country in June, with an instantaneous volume of 42 million m³/day.

According to the statement, this milestone, recorded on 06/28, made the total supply of 109.4 million m³/day of natural gas feasible, one of the largest volumes in recent years. The total supply includes natural gas produced in the country, the portion received by regasification terminals, and the volume imported from Bolivia.
The volume of regasified LNG is equivalent to the entire volume of national production currently injected by Petrobras into the integrated network, and more than double the volume of gas imported from Bolivia. This result is part of a set of initiatives that Petrobras has been adopting to increase the supply of natural gas and ensure the supply for the national market during this period of high demand, which began in the fourth quarter of 2020, with the increase of thermoelectric operations determined by the National Electric System Operator (ONS).

In addition to the effort to increase the availability of natural gas in a scenario of water crisis in the country, Petrobras considers the importance of energy transition and invests in natural gas as a low-carbon solution.
The company is committed to contributing as much as possible to ensure the gas supply for the country during this critical moment.
Shutdown of the Mexilhão Field Platform and the Rota 1 Pipeline, More Hydric Crisis Forces Petrobras to Increase the Import of Natural Gas (LNG) Through the Baía de Guanabara (RJ) Terminal to 30 Million m³ per Day
High demand for thermoelectric plants, caused by the water crisis, combined with the operation of the Mexilhão gas field and the Rota 1 pipeline, which is halted for maintenance for 30 days starting August 15, forces the Brazilian oil giant Petrobras to increase the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) through the Baía de Guanabara terminal in Rio de Janeiro by 36%.
“The effort occurs at a time of rising demand due to the increase in thermoelectric dispatch determined by ONS in the fourth quarter of 2020 and the acceleration of economic activity,” said Petrobras when questioned about information from a source in the electric sector regarding measures to increase gas supply.
Regarding the import of Bolivian gas, Petrobras stated that it is seeking to celebrate an interruptible contract with the state-owned YPFB, “in order to increase the supply originating from that country.”
