Get Ready for a Historic and Sustainable Journey! The New Tourism Train Will Connect Minas Gerais to Rio de Janeiro, with Stunning Scenery and a Positive Impact on Tourism and the Economy. The Project Promises to Transform Transportation and Culture in the Southeast Region. Discover Everything About This Unique Experience!

Have you ever imagined traveling on a train that connects two states filled with history, culture, and natural beauty while boosting tourism and sustainability in Brazil?

This idea, which seemed like a distant dream, is about to become a reality and promises to transform the tourism and economic landscape of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro.

The initiative, which combines leisure, cultural preservation, and innovation, already has an inauguration date set and continues to generate expectations.

A Railway Milestone Between Minas and Rio

The project for the tourism train that will connect the two states has finally come off the drawing board after years of planning.

On December 11, 2024, the Specific Operational Contract (COE) was signed in Brasília, which formalizes the partnership between the Ministry of Transportation, the National Land Transportation Agency (ANTT), the concessionaire VLI, the Public Interest Civil Society Organization Friends of the Train, and the municipalities of Três Rios and Sapucaia.

The expected inauguration for the trip is June 2025, when the train will initially travel 37 kilometers, linking Chiador (MG), Sapucaia (MG), and Três Rios (RJ).

The project also plans to expand the route, adding five municipalities from Minas Gerais, totaling 160 kilometers.

With a capacity to carry up to 837 passengers per trip, the initiative aims to unite transportation, leisure, and economic development.

Unique Experience: Route, Culture, and Sustainability

The route is strategically planned to offer an immersive and unique experience to travelers.

The train will pass through stunning natural landscapes and historical areas that narrate part of Brazil’s formation.

In addition, the localities are preparing to welcome tourists with new ventures such as inns, restaurants, and craft shops.

The journey also adopts a sustainable approach. The use of the railway as transportation significantly reduces the emission of pollutants, contributing to ecological and cultural tourism.

According to Leonardo Ribeiro, National Secretary of Railway Transport, “this train will create jobs, increase municipal revenue, and promote integrated development in the region”.

Investments and Next Steps

To bring the project to fruition, the Centro-Atlântica Railway (FCA) will invest R$ 36 million in restoring the railway segment.

This amount includes the recovery of locomotives, passenger cars, and the infrastructure of the route.

The FCA, which is the largest railway in Brazil, connects the Southeast, Northeast, and Midwest regions, becoming a key piece in the success of the initiative.

The next steps include:

  • ANTT authorization for the OSCIP Friends of the Train to operate as a railway operator.
  • Detailed inspections of the locomotives and passenger cars.
  • Evaluation of the segment between Três Rios and Sapucaia, with maintenance and review of the line if necessary.

A Positive Economic Impact

In addition to the tourism charm, the train project promises to boost the regional economy. The influx of visitors is expected to stimulate local trade, generate new businesses, and create job opportunities.

Cities like Chiador, Três Rios, and Sapucaia anticipate a significant transformation in their economies, with increased revenue and a strengthening of tourism-related activities.

According to experts, this type of initiative reinforces the relevance of railway transportation in Brazil, not only as a logistical alternative but also as an instrument of social and cultural integration.

Train: An Unforgettable and Accessible Ride

The train will offer much more than a simple journey. Passengers will have access to unique experiences, combining leisure, culture, and sustainability in an unforgettable ride.

Details about ticket prices and operating hours will be announced soon as the project progresses.

If you want to be part of this transformative experience, follow the updates and get ready to explore the beauty and histories that Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro have to offer.
