Australian Miner Axel Ree Will Invest R$ 400 Million in Minas Gerais and Create 150 Jobs! The Rare Earth Extraction Project Promises to Revolutionize the Local Economy, Positioning the State at the Epicenter of Production of Essential Minerals for the High-Tech Industry and the Global Energy Transition.

An Australian miner, Axel Ree, has just announced a private investment of R$ 400 million in the state of Minas Gerais.

The amount will be directed towards the extraction of rare earths in the municipalities of Padre Paraíso and Caldas, with a promise to transform the local economy and create 150 direct jobs.

This investment announcement was formalized in a letter of intent signed between the miner and the Minas government this week.

As a result, the company plans to begin the extraction of rare earth elements, essential substances for the production of cutting-edge technology, such as electric vehicle batteries and electronic devices, which have a growing demand in the global market.

The Journey of Axel Ree in Brazil

The Australian miner Axel Ree, based in Melbourne, has been focused on Brazil since 2023, when it initiated an intense geological research process in the region.

With drilling campaigns in two main projects, the company seeks to find deposits that allow the production of rare earth concentrate from mineralized ionic clays.

The most advanced project is Caladão, in the municipality of Padre Paraíso, in the Jequitinhonha Valley.
The Caldas project, located in the south of Minas, is still in the exploration phase.

Fernando Tallarico, geologist and general director of Axel Ree in Brazil, highlighted the receptivity and business environment that Minas Gerais has provided to the company.

“We at Axel Ree are very impressed with the business environment that the state of Minas Gerais has provided, including seeing other projects that were considered priorities in the Lithium Valley, with licensing obtained quickly, among other important supports”, said Tallarico.

For him, the state has demonstrated a proactive and efficient posture, which contributes to the advancement of the company’s projects in Brazil.

Economic Impact and Potential for Minas Gerais

The miner’s investment, which is in the expansion phase, could transform the local economy.

The creation of 150 direct jobs is expected to happen at the beginning of the extraction of rare earths, and the impact is not limited to this amount.

The sector should also stimulate a related production chain, generating more indirect opportunities and boosting the economies of the municipalities of Padre Paraíso and Caldas.

The importance of rare earth mining for the global economy has grown significantly.

These minerals are essential for various high-tech industries, such as the production of electric vehicle batteries and the manufacturing of electronic devices, both sectors with great growth prospects in the coming years, especially with the increasing demand for sustainable solutions and renewable energies.

According to João Paulo Braga, president of Invest Minas, Axel Ree’s investment strengthens the state’s position in the global rare earth chain.

“This project boosts our economy and strengthens the state’s position in the global rare earth chain, an essential input for high-tech industries”, said Braga, emphasizing the strategic role of the state in this new economic cycle.

Minas Gerais as a Global Rare Earth Mining Hub

The State Secretary of Economic Development, Mila Corrêa da Costa, also expressed optimism about the investment from the Australian miner.

According to her, the Minas government has been working to maximize the state’s mineral potential.

“The capacity to produce wealth in our state should be converted into opportunities for our population, and this is what the Government of Minas has been doing since 2019.

With this investment from Axel Ree, we are not only leveraging our potential in rare earths, but also creating jobs in the production of minerals essential for various sectors of industry, including green energy”, declared the Secretary.

The production of rare earths can even position Minas Gerais as a strategic hub in the global energy transition scenario, by providing the necessary inputs for the manufacture of batteries and other essential components for sustainable technologies.

The Impact on the Green Energy Industry

With the growing push for energy transition and the search for sustainable solutions, rare earths have become more valuable than ever.

These minerals are essential components in various industries, including the production of batteries for electric vehicles and renewable energy storage systems.

The growing global demand for these technologies creates unique opportunities for Brazil, especially for Minas Gerais, which is rich in natural resources, including rare earths.

In a global scenario where the automotive industry and technology markets seek greener alternatives, Minas Gerais positions itself as a protagonist in the supply chain of elements necessary for the energy transition.

Axel Ree, with its ongoing mining projects in the state, is part of this transformation that has the potential to positively impact the local and global economy.

Minas as a Reference in the Rare Earth Market

Axel Ree’s operations in Minas Gerais also elevate the state to a new level in the rare earth market.

In addition to the Padre Paraíso and Caldas projects, the company has operations in several other locations in Minas, such as Ponto dos Volantes, Caraí, Catuji, Teófilo Otoni, Novo Oriente de Minas, Poços de Caldas, Andradas, and others.

Overall, the miner’s operations in Brazil are concentrated in Minas Gerais, with a subsidiary in the city of Padre Paraíso, located in the northeastern part of the state.

The company bets on the geological potential of the state, which stands out for its great diversity of mineral resources, creating a unique opportunity for Brazil to consolidate itself as a leader in supplying rare earths to the global market.

Minas Gerais: Promising Future with International Investment

The investment of R$ 400 million from miner Axel Ree is yet another example of how the state of Minas Gerais continues to attract strategic investments for the mining sector.

With the advancement of rare earth exploration projects, the state could become one of the largest suppliers of these vital inputs for the high-tech and renewable energy industries.

The transformation of the local economy, the generation of new job opportunities, and the consolidation of Minas Gerais as a hub for rare earth production are just some of the prospects that arise with the advancement of the Australian miner’s projects in the state.

For the Minas government, the future is promising, and the opportunities generated by these investments could place the state in a new cycle of sustainable economic growth.
