If You Have Always Dreamed of Being a Diplomat, Your Chance Has Come! The IRB Contest (Instituto Rio Branco) Has a Freshly Published Announcement in the Official Gazette of the Federation This Friday, July 12, Offering 50 Vacancies for the Position of Diplomat.

The IRB Contest is aimed at those with higher education in any field. And the best part? The starting salary is R$ 20,926.98! Applications begin on July 15 and run until July 26. Note those dates so you don’t miss out!

The responsibilities of a diplomat involve activities of representation, negotiation, information, and protection of Brazilian interests in the international arena. Essentially, you will represent Brazil abroad and take care of our interests overseas. It’s a super important job with great responsibility!

The Vacancies Are Distributed as Follows:

  • General Competition: 37 vacancies
  • Persons with Disabilities: 3 vacancies
  • Black Candidates: 10 vacancies

How to Register for the IRB Contest

Applications for the IRB Contest will be made exclusively online, on the Cebraspe page, which is the organizing body of the certification. On the first day, access to the site will be allowed from 10 AM, and on the last day until 6 PM. So, be attentive not to miss the deadline!

The registration fee is R$ 229 and payment can be made until August 16. So, don’t leave it for the last minute!

Exams and Stages of the Instituto Rio Branco Contest

The first phase of the IRB Contest will be held on September 15, in two sessions: the first starts at 9:30 AM and the second at 3 PM, both lasting 3 hours. The exams will be held in all 27 state capitals of Brazil and will consist of 65 questions, distributed as follows:

  • Portuguese Language: 10 questions
  • History of Brazil: 9 questions
  • World History: 9 questions
  • Geography: 6 questions
  • English Language: 7 questions
  • International Politics: 10 questions
  • Economics: 7 questions
  • Law: 7 questions

Each question will have four items for judgment, of the type True or False. Each correct answer is worth 0.25 points, while each incorrect one deducts 0.125 points. The second phase will consist of written exams, applied in states where there are approved candidates. Let’s take a look at what awaits you in this stage:

For the Portuguese Language test, you will need to write an essay on a general topic, with a minimum length of 65 lines and a maximum of 70 lines. Additionally, you will have to prepare a summary with a minimum length of 15 lines and a maximum of 30 lines.

In the English Language test, there will be an essay on a general theme, with a minimum length of 65 lines and a maximum of 70 lines. A translation of a text from English to Portuguese will also be required, with a minimum length of 15 lines and a maximum of 30 lines.

For the other subjects (History of Brazil, International Politics, Geography, Economics, and Law), there will be two essay questions to be answered in up to 60 lines each.

For the Spanish or French Language test, it will be necessary to elaborate a summary, in Spanish or French, based on a text written in the chosen foreign language, with a minimum length of 30 lines and a maximum of 60 lines.
