Petrobras Expects Búzios Field Production in the Pre-salt Santos Basin to Jump from 600,000 to 2 Million Barrels of Oil per Day by 2030
The general managers of Búzios from Petrobras, Jaime Naveiro and Thiago Coutinho, announced yesterday (09/28) during talks at Rio Oil and Gas 2022 their intention to more than triple the installed production capacity of the Búzios field located in the pre-salt Santos Basin.
The company’s projection is that by the end of 2030, this volume will increase from the current 600,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd) – with four platforms operating today – to 2 million bpd – with the addition of seven more units operating in the field by the end of the decade.
“For the Búzios field, we currently have seven platforms under construction or contracting. The FPSO Almirante Barroso (fifth unit) is currently sailing towards Brazil to complete the commissioning stage. The FPSO Almirante Tamandaré (sixth unit) is in advanced construction, with the hull already floating and under commissioning. The P-78 and P-79 are in the initial construction phase – and we have already signed the construction contracts for P-80 (in August) and P-83 (today). Our expectation is to sign the P-82 contract soon,” said Naveiro.

Búzios is the Largest Deepwater Oil Field on the Planet in Volume and Production Potential!
It is worth noting that Búzios is the largest deepwater oil field in the world in volume and production potential, with low extraction costs, and is internationally recognized as a hub for developing disruptive technologies in ultra-deep waters.
Moreover, the Búzios field is also characterized by its low carbon emissions per barrel of oil equivalent produced – it ranks in the first quartile of the industry. “Our last record in the field was 616,000 bpd, achieved in July of this year. Looking ahead, there is an expectation that Búzios will account for 33% of Petrobras’ production by the end of 2026. By the end of the decade, the contribution will be even more significant as the platforms come online and their ramp-up (production growth) occurs with the addition of new wells, reaching their peak production,” he added.
Concerned about the environment, Petrobras has been developing a new concept of platforms equipped with technologies to reduce carbon emissions, particularly focusing on a closed flare system in the new units, among other innovations. With a future vision, the company plans to adopt the concept of IoT (Internet of Things) capable of connecting not only all equipment on board a platform but also the professionals, enhancing safety and reducing people’s exposure to risk.
